Description:
Isla Vista: Spring Renaissance Faire, 1969. First edition. Loose Sheets. Near Fine. Single sheet of 8 1/2 x 11" tall purple paper printed in black. A flyer for the 1969 Spring Renaissance Faire in Isla Vista during April 7 - 10, 1969. The flyer lists numerous scheduled events including poetry readings by Snyder, Brautigan and others plus folk dancing, satirical puppetry, plays, gymnastics and numerous other activities. Some of the other performers listed include David Kunzle, Jack Shoemaker, Cynde Meyer, Bill Bragg and more. A near fine example of this uncommon piece of sixties California event ephemera. Some light wrinkles to the sheet.

Description:
Berkeley: Pacific Tape Library, 1956. First edition. Record LP. Very Good. A rare reel-to-reel tape in original labeled box containing Ginsberg reading his poetry including his best known poem, HOWL. Per our research, the first historic reading of Howl took place at the historic 1955 reading at San Francisco's SIX GALLERY for which no known recordings exist. The second reading was a February 1956 reading at Reed College in Portland (of which one known copy exists in the college's institutional holdings); and then this third known public reading was done on October 25, 1956 and is offered here in the original reel-to-reel format and labeled box. It has become almost cliche to talk about the beats and their influence on the greater literary and cultural zeitgeist, but it is no stretch of the imagination to cite Howl as one of the most iconic poems of the 20th century and any early recording of his reading of it must be viewed with more than a little reverence. We have not played the tape, but it…

New York: The MacMillan Company, 1935. Third printing. Cloth. Fair. Wide clothbound octavo. 625 pp plus index. Collected and compiled by John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax with a foreword by George Lyman Kittredge. Third printing (February 1935). Early printing of this now famous compilation of American folk music by the Lomax father - son team. Alan Lomax was the first to record figues such as Leadbelly, Muddy Waters and Woody Guthrie. A fair to good copy only, with fairly heavy staining to the front cover. Binding is a bit threadbare, but still holds together well. What makes this copy unusual is that it has been INSCRIBED BY BOTH JOHN AND ALAN LOMAX with reference to Blowing Rock, a community in North Carolina. Inscription dated in 1940.
