Description:
New York and Archer City, TX: Simon & Schuster and Three Dog Books, 2004. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. A complete set of the Berrybender narratives, four novels of the bloody Old West by the author of Lonesome Dove. This is a complete set of the signed lettered issues produced by Three Dog Books in matching decorative slipcases by Robert Wang. While McMurtry owned a bookstore in Archer City, he didn't like selling his own books and so for a decade or so he signed limited editions for the other bookstore in town. Three Dog Books took trade first editions, added a limitation stamp, and McMurtry signed them. The books were limited to 75 numbered and 26 lettered copies, except for By Sorrow's River, which had only 50 numbered copies. First editions (first printings of all four books). All are fine in fine dust jackets and fine slipcases. This is a near matched set, with Sin Killer being letter N of 26; the other three volumes are lettered "O" of 26. Scarce completed in the lettered issue.
