Baker that advertises the steamship company of the same name. A splendid reminder of the awe such steamships inspired in the American public in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Folio (14" by 10.5"), pp. 6, wrappers inclusive; original illustrated wrappers printed in red and black. Ink stamp of sheet music dealer Aschbach to upper wrapper. The American Line grew in 1886 when it bought the Inman Line, and merged with some of its peers in 1902 to form the International Mercantile Marine Company. Boston, Massachusetts: Timothy Davis & Co.'s Line, December 7, 1853. Fine; tape repairs to verso.. Bill of lading for "Romance of the Sea", one of several clipper ships owned by the Timothy Davis & Co.'s Line out of San Francisco, California. This particular clipper was launched November 15, 1853, and would mysteriously disappear en route to San Francisco after leaving Hong Kong in 1863. Printed bill of lading (8.5" by 10.5"), completed in ink manuscript and stamped with official T.D. & Co. red ink stamp.

Sept - Nov 1855. Anna Morey was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Chadborne. She married an American inventor, Charles Morey on February 5, 1849 in Boston. Charles was killed on December 30, 1856 by a guard at Rue de Clichy, a debtor's prison, on the day he was to be released. Tragically Morey was being release because a judge had found that he had been arrest illegally. . A collection of 6 illustrated letters with 24 pages written by Anna Morey while she and her husband traveled through Germany and towards Paris on their grand European Tour. Anna is clearly writing to a young boy, and most likely a family member (nephew or young cousin) she often makes reference to her parents (his grandparents). Anna and her husband Charles tour through the Germany countryside, mostly alongside the Rhine on a carriage. A single-fold letter sheet detailing their departure from Philadelphia on the Steamer Trenton, before switching to a stage coach and traveling along the Delaware River. They continued traveling north at at this point, using various stage coaches over several days, and passed through Tacony, Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, Stroudsburg, Harrison, and Pittston, until reaching the town of Wilkes-Barre. The letter ends with Jeremiah's future plans for travel, where he and his brother would next head south and see White Haven, PA, and Maunch Chunk Lake before heading back to Philadelphia. Paris, France: MP Marcel Picardo, 12-Jun-02. A single fold menu for Hotel de L'Empire located in Paris, France. The menu is most likely for their hotel restaurant and is dated June 12, 1902. That night dinners had a choice been Turbot (fish) in a cream sauce or chicken. The hotel was located at No. 7 Rue Daunou and is no longer in existence (though there is a hotel by the same name currently in Paris). The menu also has an advertisement for Redfern, a store in Paris that sold Furs, Robes, Dresses, Manteaux (coats), Lingerie and Trousseaux. Refern was a British tailoring firm founded in 1855 by John Redfern that had several stores across Europe. Its Paris extension was operated as a couture establishment which developed into a leading European Couture house, while its other branches were mostly tailors and/or importers.
