This is a boxed copy of the book; while the box show rubbing, the box is solid; the book itself could be described as excellent condition except that there is (what appears to be) mold along the glued edges of the inside covers both front and back (see the 4th picture), there is damage to the word "Wolken" on the spine, and the silk ribbon has become detached from the book; the lettering and decoration and text edges are silver gilt. There are no marks in the text. This book is undated; the 1886 date of publication is based on research, but other booksellers' descriptions of this book seem less ornate than this copy so the date of publication is uncertain. There are marks by the bookseller and there is a stain on the title page from where there was a price tag. This is a reprint of a book first published in 1885. Very good, but note the white paint stain at the crease of the spine and front board; the maroon boards w/gold gilt on top edge, lettering; there is a remainder mark on the bottom edge; an owner's inscription on the inside cover; the title page has a tear from the front flyleaf. This is probably an 1890 first edition based on pictures of this book listed with other dealers. The binding is tight. 396 pages plus another sheet listing other titles in the American Classics Series.

The three books pictured (8 images) are the set being sold; the beautiful leather binding is in very good condition, defects pictured; except for penciled bookseller notes, the books are unmarked, clean; the paper shows only mild tanning; I am told these are first editions, volume 1 (two books) published in 1857, volume 2 (one book) published in 1861. These are the two completed volumes of an unfinished project; Buckle died in 1862.

These 8 images are of the two-volume set being sold. The first volume is the 1964 facsimile of the 1499 first edition (page numbered added) and the second volume presents scholarship and indexes. Both books are in excellent condition; the plastic DJs are brittle, the slipcase is in very good condition. There is a penciled note on the front flyleaf that this set is #223 of 1,300 printed. The books are clean and bright. Given the weight (15 pounds) and size (13.5 x 9.25 x 3.6 inches), the US buyer is asked to request expedited shipping, while an international buyer should expect to pay postage required to ship to his/her country.
