One of 500 copies; the present example belonging to the second 250 copies with a round spine, as opposed to the flat spine used for the first 250. Likely signed for Norman Ungar, a collector based in New York and a friend and sometime patron of Thomas.
Original black cloth. Spine lettering a little dulled with a touch of rubbing to hinges and corners. One or two isolated spots to a few of the opening pages and to rear endpaper. Lacking dust jacket.
An excellent, clean example of the author's first book. Extremely scarce, even more so signed.

First Edition, First Impression (Heinemann, 1955). Presentation inscription by the author to front endpaper dated March 1973. The third novel in the 'A Dance to the Music of Time' series, which comprises twelve novels in total. Signed or inscribed copies of this title are very scarce. Spine tips and corners rubbed; marks to boards at front and rear; spine slightly darkened; edges toned; binding cracked at front and rear, but all pages still firmly adhered. Original and unclipped dust jacket has minor restoration to spine tips and corners; light soiling to parts of rear panel and a couple of small closed tears to the top.

First Edition and First Impression (Chatto & Windus, 1971). Minor bumping to spine tips. Original and price-clipped dust jacket has some rubbing to corners and extremities; corners and spine tips chipped; spotting to front and rear flaps. A very good copy.

Some light spotting, floral endpapers, publisher's light blue cloth with gilt edges. Spine ends repaired with some of the often-seen rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine and previous owner's bookplate to front paste-down.

A little faint spotting to endpapers, paste-downs and edges with light marking to top edge of lower board - better than very good. The original and unclipped dust jacket has some rubbing and small nicks and chips to edges with some browning and spotting to verso. A very good copy.

Original red cloth with black lettering to spine. A little off-setting/browning to endpapers and usual toning to edges, otherwise excellent in a very good unclipped dust jacket with some chipping to spine head and a few closed tears to edges. A very good copy indeed.

Limited edition (Crediton: Richard Gilbertson, 1967). Signed by Ted Hughes to the front endpaper. One of 100 copies produced. 1-6 were interleaved throughout with blank paper, on which the poet wrote out each of the thirteen poems in full, to face the printed text and were also bound in full dark green levant morocco gilt by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. 7-16 were interleaved with three manuscript poems and bound in half morocco gilt by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. 17-36 contained one poem in manuscript and were bound in decorative covers. The example on offer here is one of the 37-100 copies that were signed by the author. Original salmon fur-grained covers with lettering to the upper cover in black. Faint marginal soiling to spine with minor wrinkling here and there; top edge of upper cover and opening few pages turned up slightly; area of minor staining to lower cover with a little colour transfer to fore-edge of rear endpaper, contents nice and clean otherwise and firmly bound. A very good example of a rare book.
