Description:
Garden City, N.Y.: Country Life Press, 1925. . 8vo, stiff blue wrappers, paper label on front. "This paper, in abbreviated form, was prepared for, but not presented at, the conference held on March 29th, 1925, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Astor, for the purpose of discussing Arbitration." An essay on the role of the League of Nations in the arbitration process. "Had there been a league of Nations in 1914, it might not have averted the outbreak of war...but who will contend that the war would have become so widespread and been fought with such utter virulence and protractedness? All the Powers engaged in that insane combat would fain have retraced theirs steps or withdrawn with honor unsullied, but there was no mediating center to call them to reason, bring them together, and set them right..."

Garden City, N.Y: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc; London: Henry Southern, Ltd., 1933. . 8vo, stiff slate-blue wrappers, paper label on front. WITH a 4-page article "If I were Dictator"--transcript of a radio talk on the Columbia Broadcasting System Feb. 1, 1933. "Human Nature..." is an elucidation of the thesis in"If I were Dictator" i.e. "The root trouble of the World is that Human Nature is held at a discount...The one distinctive human element is Aspiration. Upon it is based Man's longing for Liberty. The Animal lacks it. It is this characteristic, Aspiration, which gives the tone and sweep to human life; and is what may properly be spoken of as "Human Nature..."

Description:
Providence, R.I: Thomas Doyle, . . Single sheet, printed on one side only, 6 15/16 x 5 15/15 inches, on a sheet measuring 8 3/8 x 6 3/4 inches (unequal margins), minor soiling. A most appealing little piece: within a Greek key border, with corner pieces of a stylized flower within a circle, within a square; at top, vignette of two figures on either side of a coat of arms showing a beaver felling a tree with the motto "Assiduity" to the left, an American harvester with a scythe and sheaf of wheat and to the left, a Native American with a dog and holding a broken bow, all surmounted by a sailing vessel--strangely this appears to be a version of the arms of Albany, N.Y., this vignette is surrounded on three sides by button decorations. Below this, a house with on either side [the same cut], a seated woman beside a Corinthian column and wheel, with inset a blacksmith's arm and in the background Another row of button decorations and bellow that "SOLD WHOLESALE AND RETAIL BY… Read More

Description:
Garden City, N.Y.: Country Life Press, 1924. . 8vo, stiff brown wrappers, paper label on front. "The most urgent need of Europe is the creation of larger political and economic units. Europe, in other words, has to be de-Balkanized by the setting up of systems of federation. In that way only can the elementary causes of friction and hate and unrest be removed. Its provincialism, its narrowly drawn tribal spirit, still hearkening back to the days of the Middle Ages, is the bane of Europe..."
