There are no references to slavery, his employer, nor does it contain any "sensitive" or non-p.c. expressions or words.It became a very popular song among Confederate troops in the Civil War. It is thought by many that Bland certainly had this 1840s' minstrel song in mind when in 1878, he wrote "Carry Me Back..."
