Medium-sized (9 7/8" x 13 7/8") non-pictorial red & royal blue lettered heavy card stock broadside promoting the show almost certainly performed in Vancouver, B. D., Canada. It was sponsored by Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada Unit 45, now located in North Van. Show dates Sept. 7-9, but no year given. Circa 1948. We find no references to the Polo Bros. "Stormy", however, " .. "You've Seen Him in 20th Century Fox's 'Thunderhead Son of Flicka' and in 'Green Grass of Wyoming' -- Also in M.G.M.'s 'Wild Horse'". Near fine condition. No tears or abrasions. Lightly soiled.

Several articles and features, including book reviews. Artist Randy Steffen was the Managing Editor and his color drawing, "Big Jim's Christmas Story" adorns the front cover, and is the feature article. Publication info says, in part: "... devoted to all types of equestrian sports, Horse Breeding and Training, designed to bring together for mutual benefit the admirers of all types of riding horses..." Near vg copy but with some mustiness and back cover has a couple of edge tears, closed. Very scarce in any issue.

Newark and NYC: Charles E. Graham, 1920. Hardcover. Very Good+/Fair. Beautiful reprint edition, circa 1920, of 1877 book. Wide 8vo. Pictorial red cloth with applied lithograph of watercolor painting on decorated red cloth with black titles. Unpaginated. Color frontispiece and 50 b/w illustrations we believe to be from wood block. Ink inscription, "From Santa Claus" on ffep with no names or other gift information. The front and rear free endpapers are toned as the paper used to print this edition was pulpy. The condition is remarkably good and the covers are bright with only one slight corner bump. The dj is fair with chips and with one edge of the backstrip that was detached reattached with archival material. We must note that the dj, although clearly period (old) has no price listed. The dj flaps along the leading edge are blank and the lovely color illustrated panels of the covers extend more than half-way onto the flaps. n.p.: n.p., 1910. Soft cover. Near Fine. This real photo post card (RPPC) of an unidentified mounted cowboy has a classic look it to it, and he is well appointed, as is his horse. This is a generic divided back post card with no stamp block. On the back of the card, hand-printed in pencil, is a family name we can't quite make sense of, plus a bit of other information: (FAMILY) / EAGLE RIVER / WI / CIRCA 1910 / PHOTO FROM WEST" We presume from the modern abbreviation of Wisconsin that it is a modern description by someone who knew the family or in some was connected. Eagle River is up in the Northwoods not far from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Slight toning on the back and the photo is quite sharp and correctly exposed. We are providing a close-up of the revolver and holster. We think we know the maker of the firearm, but not being experts in this will refrain from saying. Library stamps (none on the edges) on copyright page & rear paste down. Unused checkout sheet on rear e.p., & small pocket on rear paste down. Small red ink number on ffep. Library call number strip on bottom of spine. All said & done, maybe the only attractive ex-lib copy one can have! Scarce. Wilson 10.

"Stick to the Fred Mueller Saddle / Phone Main 1454," "Saddles You are Proud to Own at Prices you are Glad to Pay!" etc. Condition well used and graded fair to good: stapled text block pulled from paper covers; paper covers soiled but print strong; lower corner of back cover chipped 1 1/4" x 1" triangle. Pages: 103-104 with lower corner missing affecting one product; 105 with portion of corner of page 103 stuck to it in the corner; 119-120 with bottom corner missing affection products in the corner; last leaf 119-120 lower corner torn away affecting products in that corner. These catalogues are much sought.

Blind-stamp decorated & gilt-stamped, pictorial 4to cloth. 127pp of text. 107 plates with tissue guards, including nine drawings in color showing horse musculature. Preface by Leland Stanford, who hired the now famous photographer, known for his California landscapes, to prove whether or not all four hooves of a horse are at some point in the air while trotting. A seminal book in the history of photography & also equine studies. Some wear to extremities; some peeling of cloth at two spine corners; rubbing on back cover (long line & spots); some tissue guards with some creases; some slight pulls/short tears at binding on some leaves; three leaves with some burning from laid in newspaper clippings; front hinge separation after preliminary blank page has been archivally closed. Overall a good copy. Very scarce & desirable.

NY: Outing, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible Very Good. 1st printing. "Binding" is listed as hardcover, but although this is a cloth binding, the covers flex. Small 8vo. 197pp. Wonderfully descriptive drawings showing, step by step, how to pack a mule, horse, or I suppose donkey. Index. Several pages in rear of other Outing publications. On the ffep in bold ink is the ownership writing of "Randolf Russell -- / Troup "C" / No 311 / November 1914 / (ink drawn line/device) / Squadron A, Cavalry, N. G., N.Y." On the facing front paste down is Russell's ink address stamp, "Randolph Russell / West New Brighton / Staten Island - N. Y." A truly remarkable procedure book with many drawings showing the animal from above and how the ropes, etc., are looped and tied. Vg. Although reprinted, very, very scarce in the first edition. A real prize with the accompanying ownership information.

"Born in 1902 in the rugged ranch country of eastern Oregon, as a youth (Leonard) made his living as an 'oldtime cowboy'" In this book he writes of "his friends and family and especially of his work and the men with whom he shared his days..." "Growing up in Lakeview", "Stockmen of Eastern Oregon", "Oregon Indians", etc. Fine, like new in dj.

Norman: OU, 1977. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 1st printings all four volumes. 4to blue cloth in dust jackets. The set was published in three different years: 1977, 1978, 1978, and 1979. Pagination: 195, 215, 268, 136pp. Illustrated mainly with black/white drawings, but with some color plates. Index. Appendices. We note that the dj of volume III is wrinkled on the back panel from moisture, but there are no visible stains. Also on same dj there is a bit of wear lower corner of front panel. We're going to hold our ground and still call this a fine set. Surely one of the best sources on the dress of the American cavalry ever published.

NY: Knopf, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 1st printing. Cloth. 304pp. Illustrated with nice drawings by Lorence Bjorklund. If you like to read about how the old time horse and mule traders in Texas liked to get the best of one another, this is the book you want, the first of several first-rate books Green wrote. Every page of description is a delight. Very slightly cocked or pushed spine, but still fine in near fine dj with a small chip loser left corner of front panel.

Presentation copy dated June, 1959, to a couple and signed "Joe and Mary Back." Laid in is a well-executed original drawing of rope, on now brown paper; could be by Back. It has the recipient's name on it, but may not be by the recipient. Covers quite thoroughly foxed. Tiny label on bottom of spine. No dj. Reading copy but collectible because of inscription. Very scarce title nonetheless.

Chicago: n.p., 1939. First Thus. Hardcover. Good+. THIS IS A JOKE BOOK -- A BOOK MADE INTO A JOKE. Roberts took a real book, in this case Nature Study and Health Education (McKnight & McKnight, Normal, Ill.) and precisely cut the heart out of the text block in the form of a vertical triangle with round corners-- i. e. made a hole. Pasted on the inside of the rear cover is a card showing a janitor pushing a cleaning cart. Taped on that card is a miniature broom and shovel. So this is a real book made into a joke and with the new pictorial title label published, printed, and affixed to the front cover. The ffep has a gift inscription. Good +, moderately worn. Probably no dj issued in this state.
