Classic French satire first published in 1759, the story of Candide, the optimist who eventually becomes disillusioned with society after witnessing and experiencing hardships. Translated by Richard Adlington, illustrations by Sylvain Sauvage - a total of twenty illustrations. 147 pages, 6-3/4" X 10-1/4". Edition is not clearly marked, this is most likely the edition from the late 1940's. Former owner's name written in blue ink at the top corner of the first flyleaf page.
