The author was a popular gardening author of the Victorian period. The color plates are of flowers and the many other illustrations include greenhouses and plans, conservatories, equipment, Victorian vases, plants, etc. This was first published in 1873 and reprinted a number of times, apparently unchanged, although the later printings had only the colored frontis but without the other fine colored plates.
