Book is in fine condition with clean covers, bright gilt, bright pages, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, no crease marks on pages. Original dust jacket is present with some rubbing at corners and folds, crease mark along middle of spine, clipped front flap corner. Book measures 216mm tall x 139mm, and has 216 pages, 35 photos, 6 maps & plans. This is the first printing of the USA edition of the UK title, Because It Is There. Member & photographer on first ascent of Everest & Fuch's successful trans-Antarctic expedition. Account of these trips. NEW in New Dust Jacket (I bought this in person from McNair and asked her to sign it). SIGNED b y Author on title page. She was the leader of the first all women?s (no men at all) expedition to the Geographic North Pole. 20 women worked in relays (but author stayed on the entire way) for 80 days & 416 nautical miles, skiing & sledge-hauling, and reached the Pole 26 May 1997. Denise Martin, assistent leader, was the first Canadian woman to reach the Pole on foot. Detailed appendices listing e quipment, itinerary, menus, etc. useful for planning such an expedition.
