JOe McCarthy was an American who joined the RCAF and did a tour of operations with the 97 Squadron. The Dambusters have been immortalised in World War Two folklore and film as a result of their attack on the dams of the Ruhr. The Dambusters were an elite Lancaster bomber unit .
