The back cover says The Standard Hour is the oldest network program on the Pacific Coast and the longest musical broadcast in the United States. Canada: Various, 1953. (CAD) This entry consists of some 16 (there is one duplicate) from various newspapers but many from the Vancouver Sun. The clippings are yellowed, but in Good condition with folds to many of the clippings. The earliest one I can date is from the Vancouver News Herald of June 20 1953and has a photo of Phillips in her role as Kate in the Theatre Under the Stars production of "Kiss Me Kate". Another clipping from the Vancouver Sun of July 2 1953 shows Phillips with Barbara Bailey in "Rose Marie". The latest clipping dates from Nov 4 1966 and has a photo of Phillips in her role as the wistch in Hansel and Gretel. Betty Phillips was a Vancouver-born singer and actress. She appeared at TUTS for the first time in a 1946 production of Robin Hood and subsequently played leads in more than 20 TUTS productions until 1960; she is best remembered for the role of Mrs Anna in The King and I. Canada: Various, 1958. (CAD) This entry consists of 3 clippings from the Globe Magazine and possibly from the Vancouver Sun. The clippings are yellowed, but in Good condition with folds to 2 of the 3 clippings. The Globe Magazine articles dates from Oct 11 1958 and features Stratas as "a veteran performer" for the Toronto Opera Festival. Stratas was 19 years of age at the time. The two other clippings date from 196s and report on Stratas walking out in the middle of a performance of Eugene Onegin at Moscow' Bolshoi Theatre. . (1.0 JM HOX 1/1. Unbound. Good. This is the Italian version with Montserrat Caballe, Antonietta Stella, Bruno Prevedi, Seston Bruscantini, directed by Riccardo Muti with the Orchestra Symphonique et Choeurs de la RAI de Rome. Agnes von Hohenstaufen is a German-language opera in three acts by the Italian composer Gaspare Spontini. The German libretto is by Ernst Benjamin Salomo Raupach. It was first staged at the Königliches Opernhaus, Berlin, on 12 June 1829. (USA) One single leaf (pages 47 and 48) removed from a magazine dated Feb 1957 which is adhered to the left edge to a scrapbook page; there is a partial clipping from The Etude of Feb 1956? "on a Hgh Note" in which an unidentified singer discusses d singing the high tones, which is adhered to the scrapbook page. The Gorin page is on the recto and is INSCRIBED "To Madame N----/ Sincerely, Igor Gorin/ Vancouver, May 11, 61". Overall the condition is about Very Good. Gorin was a Ukrainian Jewish baritone and music teacher. In screen credits, he is sometimes known as Charles Igor Gorin. He started singing in a synagogue choir but was trained at the Vienna Music Academy in the late 1920s.He emigrted to the USA in 1933 and started his American careet at the Radio City Music Hall and later in Hollywood where he was known as the Viennese baritone.
