Ann Arbor, MI: Self-published, 1866. Scarce, relatively early edition: 1866 and "Thirty-eighth Edition" printed on title page. Preface is to the Tenth Edition. (The work was first published in 1856). FAIR. Internally pages are very good - clean and complete with light foxing and an occasional spot or small stain. Binding is worn and fragile - the cloth cover, very much faded, has 3 bands of ancient black tape across the spine; interior of front hinge is somewhat reinforced with brown tape. Rear hinge has cracked and is very loose. Boards are loose and there is split between gatherings towards the center of the book. The front free endpaper is missing and the first leaf, a portrait of Dr. Chase, has the brown tape running down left side of art. Reverse is an illustration depicting the University of Ann Arbor.
