Ocher linen covers with gilt Greek key borders, gilt title and decoration, gilt to spine. Front board a bit concave, spine faded, minor edge wear. Orange end pages. First blank has a gift inscription from a member of the Ranedda family whose crest is included in the volume. Text is clean and unmarked. Last blank and prior two leaves have some humidity rippling but no other signs of that. Priced low to reflect this small defect. Scarce, with a nice provenance. Index at end of Vol. II. Title vignettes, engraved headers and tailpieces. Small octavos in what appears to be original hard paper bindings. Bindings are a bit scuffed, worn at corners, spines have old paper labels with 1 & 2 and shelf number. Interiors have old library labels with some library marks on the end papers, both titles have either been laid down or strengthened with paper behind, end papers foxed, otherwise minimal foxing throughout, occasional small mark, but mostly clean and unmarked. Schelhorn (1694-1773) was a teacher, Lutheran pastor, and librarian in Memmingen who wrote on literary and ecclesiastical history. Very pretty picture book in grey cloth with red and black Fraktur, black string tie. Interior has pretty floral encdpapers (hinges just starting). Creamy paper, red and black title page with Fraktur . Small stain at bottom edge of title page that continues and grows a bit to viii then diminshes, otherwise clean and sturdy, still an attractive little volume. ; 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall .

Hardcover. 517 pp, 512 [9] pp, 500 pp. This is a three volume set, volumes 2, 3 and 4, in good antiquarian condition. In what appears to be the original very attractive tree calf full leather bindings with 5 raised bands on the spine, floriated gilt compartments as well as red and black morocco labels. Moderate wear to the bindings, joints and corners, some rubbing, one red label has a chip and a crack. Interiors have the signature of a father, then later the signature of the son (the family were descendants of Joan of Beaufort and John of Gaunt). Some minor foxing, spotting and wear to the interiors, but in general sound and clean. The English edition is very scarce in commerce - we could find no record of any other copies for sale or at auction - and relatively scarce in holdings.
