Library bound in dark blue buckram with gilt title to spine, otherwise no sign of library marks except a number stamp on verso of last leaf. Rubricated half title with "medieval" style name of Norman Moore (possibly Sir Norman Moore, who along with being a student of medicine was also interested in medieval Ireland) with small repair to verso of page, rubricated Master of Rolls page and rubricated title. Clean and sturdy, some occasional light pencil marginalia but it is neat, mostly in the De laudibus. Neckamr *(1157 – 1217) was an English magnetician, poet, theologian, and writer. Hardcover. 1900-1906 four parts bound as one, 44 [7] 40 ff with black and white and sepia photographic plates, 4 title pages. Royal forto with 3/4 cloth, black cloth spine with gilt, black corners the cloth has disappeared, paper hard boards with a modernist design in green, black and brown. Spine is worn, joints starting, interior end papers with an Amerindian inspired design, front end paper has some small chips. Text pages have some small thumbing marks but otherwise clean and unmarked, paper a bit aged and toned but in nice condition. Interior in good condition, cover in fair-good condition. A scarce copy of the major work by French botanist Jaques/Jakob Huber, who went to the Amazon in the late 1890s. ; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall .

Scarce book on the cotton and rubber industries in Mozambique. Bound in dark green hard paper boards with handsome gilt to spine, original linen/card covers are bound in. What appear to be institutional or library notations to title page and original cover, otherwise unmarked. There is a damp stain to bottom 1/4 of all pages. Folding charts are all intact. Dublin: Hodges, Smith & Co. Fair with no dust jacket. 1865. First Edition. Hardcover. x + 216 pp + [i] Frontis piece and 16 tinted illustrations. Original dark blue cloth covers with brilliant gilt sailing ship to front cover. Covers are worn and faded, back strip coming away, parts of spine gone, spine tips worn, old mercantile library sticker to front cover and spine, back board bumped at edge. Interior is clean and unmarked, some corners dogged, foxing throughout, plates all present and nice, some plates have some foxing moving into the plate. Old and a bit fragile, but still readable and fascinating on the interior with wonderful tinted plates. An account of the rather remarkable author's hunting trip to Albania. A shooting cruise off the coast of Albania. Despite being born with only the rudiments of arms and legs Kavanagh triumphed over his physical defects and was an expert shooter and angler and an experienced yachtsman.; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall .

Extrait de la Zoologie de l'Expedition dans les parties centrales de l'Amerique du Sud, pubnliee sous la direction de M. le comte Francis de Castelnau. Original green hard paper boards are worn and aged, spine perished, corners of boards rubbed and chipped, small lack at bottom front joint. Interior first page has old institution impressed stamp, paper thinned and partly missing at top and bottom gutter margin, otherwise clean and unmarked. Pages 72-87 heavily browned, fore-edges somewhat chipped. Plates have some foxing but otherwise clean (starts with Plate 7 as called for), plate 15 has another institutional embossure. Needs to be resewn. Aged but complete, very scarce.; Folio - over 12" - 15" tall .

Includes article pasted in at front "der synthetische Smaragd" and booklet pasted at rear "Edel und Schmucksteine". Blue cloth cover is a little worn and faded. Inside there are some ownership stamps but otherwise clean and nice. A heavy book. Schließt Artikel mitein, der in an Front eingefügt wird, „der synthetische Smaragd“ und Druckschrift, die an Hinterseite „Edel und Schmucksteine“ eingefügt wird. Blaue Tuchdecke ist ein wenig abgetragen und hat verwelkt. Innenseite die es gibt einige Eigentumsrechtbriefmarken aber sonst sauber und nett. Ein schweres Buch. ; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall .

An interesting look at attempts at producing silk in the US in the hopes of creating a new industry and also removing silk production from Asia. Blindstamped dark blue grey cloth with gilt to the front cover and spine. covers are generally faded and worn. Cover gilt is bright, spine gilt is gone, spine sunned. Interior very foxed, the illustrated plate is missing with a ghost of the image still appearing at the half-title. Some dampstaining and signatures showing but still holding and still quite readable. Not beautiful but quaint. Priced low to reflect condition. ; 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall .

London: William Pamplin. Good with no dust jacket. 1849. First Edition. Hardcover. (5) + 48 + 40 litho plates + (4) index. Plates show details of the fruits and seeds of Leguminosae. Not sure if this is the original binding but it is certainly contemporary -- brown pigsuede spine and corners with red leatherette over paper boards. Corners are quite worn, some chipping away of the leatherette, spine label and gilt are bright and clear, spine tips worn. Interior no first fly, paper is quite browned, there is an old ownership stamp to the title page and also on the first page of the text, title page has short tear at bottom edge. Plates are quite foxed, some quires are white while others are browned, otherwise clean and fresh. This book was purchased by us in 2007, well before the 2009 theft of the same title in Brazil. Printers device on title and 21 charming woodcuts of birds, animals, trees etc, including one of a surgical operation, woodcut initials, 2 columns. Extremely scarce in commerce and not easy to find in libraries, either. Condition is good antiquarian. Modern cream cloth boards with normal shelf wear, what appears to be an older leather spine label. Interior end pages renewed with the book plate of Eric Gerald Stanley, the great Oxonian medieval scholar. Title page is remounted and repaired with some losses, including to text, some old ownership marks.
