Edition of 100. Signed, titled and inscribed "100 proofs" in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression. The first of John Sloan's "New York life plates," Connoisseurs of Prints depicts an exhibition of prints to be auctioned at the old American Art Gallery, on East 23rd Street and Madison Square. Sloan planned a series of "Connoisseurs" themed prints, however, this was the only plate realized.

Simon studied for several years under Jacques Alexander, at the NAD, Académie Julian in Paris, and learned the art of wood cutting from the Japanese. His wood engravings of the Bohemian life of Paris were widely acclaimed abroad while his etchings and paintings were well received both in California and New York by art critics in the 1920s. Simon was a resident of San Francisco in 1927-32. He died in White Plains, NY on Oct. 15, 1979. Exh: Calif. Society of Etchers.
