New York: David McKay Company, 1962. Hardcover. 8vo. Brown cloth, dust jacket. vii, 280pp. Near fine/very good. Slight bit of mild jacket edgewear. Tight, attractive first edition, boldly signed and inscribed ("With best wishes!") by Bradley in blue fountain pen on the half-title page. Bradley (1888-1983) was a well-known Chicago personality, author and speaker, for many years pastor of the People's Church. Unusual copy: Below Bradley's signature is another inscription in blue ballpoint: "Clarence P. Schwarz / Grand Master of / Masons in Illinois." Schwarz was a noted Chicago masonic figure (a lodge there is named in his honor), Past Master of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in 1940 and Most Worshipful Past Grand Master in 1963-64.

Three-quarter calf with gilt spine lettering and dark green cloth. 322pp. Color frontispiece, numerous full-page plates, all pages ruled in red. Very good. Chicago: R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, 1911. Hardcover. Introduction by Caroline M. McIlvaine. 16mo. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering, rules and device. xxvii, 182pp. Top edge gilt. Tissue-guarded captioned frontispiece. Very good. Mild edgewear, though internally fine. First of this edition following the 1888 true first edition of the Chicago pioneer and fur trader (1802086). Tight, attractive copy of this early "Lakeside Classic," the annual keepsake given by this printer and publisher to friends and clients starting in 1903. Early Lakesides from their "green period" -- the first thirty years -- have become quite scarce in recent years. Hubbard's is a classic account of the early Northwest and the Chicago area.

Description:
Chicago: Contemporary Books, 1982. Paperback. Illustrations by Bill Stebbins. Foreword by Mike Royko. 4to. Stiff glossy blue pictorial wrappers. 64pp. Line drawings, illustrations. Very good. Quite minor edgewear. A tight and attractive first edition of this amusing how-to on Chicago dialect -- "Translated Into English for the First time... Plus Bugsy's Illustrated Chicago Crime Tour." Strangely and interestingly, tipped before the title page is a bizarre bit of shall we say "Caponiana" -- an 8½" X 11" printed press announcing the April 21, 1986 "live on television" airing of "The Mystery of Al Capone's Vault" from Tribune Entertainment Company. This heavily-marketed two-hour television special hosted by Geraldo Rivera turned into a fiasco, for when Rivera finally opened the vault it was empty.
