Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1927. Hardcover. 8vo. Ribbed blue cloth. xxvii, 458pp. Frontispiece. Good plus. Mild binding edgewear; inner hinges expertly, archivally strengthened, thus tight. Early printing of this study by Lincoln Memorial University's chancellor (1863-1936). The front flyleaf is boldly inscribed (in another hand) "Christmas Greetings from / Senator William M. Calder / with the best wishes of / The Author" followed by Hill's bold full signature. (Calder, 1869-1945, was the Republican U.S. senator from New York from 1917 to 1923.) Who the Senator presented this book to remains unknown, though it's quite likely that the pencilled notes that fill one inner flyleaf page are in his/her hand. MONAGHAN 2458.

Description:
Huntington, IN: Our Sunday Visitor Publishing Division, 2010. Hardcover. Small 4to. Black cloth with silver spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 457pp. Illustrations. Fine/fine. Outstandingly pristine first edition of this fightin' cleric's autobiography -- chaplain to the 82nd Airborne Division during World War Two, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, DC (1956-65) and eleventh Archbishop of New Orleans (1965-88). As Hannan died at age 98 in 2011 shortly after the release of this book, copies signed by the nonagenarian aren't seen -- but this copy bears a fine autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a special heavy stock card signed boldly by Hannan in full in black fineline, dated by him 8 October 1970 at upper right. Laid in is the perfect bookmark -- the original signature transmittal envelope.

Description:
Concord: David Kimball, 1835. Paperback. 12mo. Plain grey/blue wrappers. 12pp. Very good. Slightest bit of age toning; mild sporatic foxing (mainly to plain outer wrappers). Probable sole edition of this interesting fine-print list of this church's beliefs. The lengthy list of church members includes the brother of famed explorer Stephen Harriman Long (1784-1864), ENOCH LONG, his wife ABIGAIL LONG and other family members. Enoch long was a noted resident of Alton, Illinois and noted early Alton settler who in 1837 headed a small militia unit whose job it was to protect abolitionist Elijah Lovejoy from the "angry mob." They failed and Lovejoy was shot dead. Though not so noted, this pamphlet came from Enoch Long's personal papers. A delightful New England church item with an interesting background. Not in Sabin.
