Philadelphia: Aurora, 1812. Periodical. Fair. The original newspaper, a single folded sheet on laid paper in fair condition; many short tears on edges, also chipped at the right hand of the fold so that 10 or 12 words are missing from p.1, and 2 or 3 from p. 2. This was the Aurora Company's daily paper. Has a fascinating report of the naval engagement between the privateer schooner Shadow and a British man-of-war.

Hudson, NY: Sampson, Chittenden & Croswell, 1803. Periodical. Very Good-. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 8 3-column pp. on laid paper, vg-; there are a few lt. brown stains, a thin waterstain along the left margin, and creases from having been folded in sixths. Remarkably bright and easily read. An editorial by 'Obed', an account of Louisiana (at that time this meant the entire Louisiana Purchase), and a number of reprints from other papers. Clever woodcuts and rules accompany the beginning of each column. The obituary column is called 'The Knell'.

Boston: Russell, Cutler & Co., 1817. Periodical. Good+. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp., good+; darkened and lightly foxed, separating along the lefthand fold, but free of edgewear. Much of the type is small but the printing is clear. Shipping news, wholesale prices, government acts relating to trade, etc.

Boston: John Clark, 1860. Periodical. Very Good-. The original newspaper, 4 giant folio pages, vg-; somewhat worn on edges, lightly stained, but all very legible. This paper supported the Constitutional Union Party, and here reports on their convention; news from around the world, but no apparent awareness of the impending Civil War. About 2/3 ads.

Boaton: John Russell & James Cutler, 1801. Periodical. Very Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on laid paper, vg; minimal foxing. Typeface is still using the 18th-century long 's'. Has a long editorial by 'Americanus' addressed "To the President of the United States".

Boston: Russell & Cutler, 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on very uneven rag paper, good only. Some foxing and stains along the right side, some old marks with a pen on p. 2 (apparently made when the paper was current), and some of the printing on p. 2 transferred to p. 3, making reading difficult. Has a notice of the abolition of the slave trade in Great Britain.

Boston: John Russell & James Cutler, 1801. Periodical. Very Good-. The original newspaper, 4 pp. on laid paper, vg-; scattered spotting; removed from binding along left side. The typeface uses the long 's', one of the few examples after 1800 that I've seen. Has editorials by 'Old Brick' and 'Juris Consultus', and includes many interesting ships' ads, advertising goods for sale or wanting freight.

Boston: Nathaniel Willis, 1821. Periodical. Fair. The original newspaper, 4 pp. letterpress printed on lad paper. Fair; numerous tears along folds, and lt. stains. A religious paper.

Boston: E.D. Moore, 1847. Periodical. Good+. A Religious Family Paper". The original newspaper, 4 pp. letterpress printed on plain white paper, good plus. Text is darkened along the creases and there are some sm. holes.

Boston: Willis & Rand, 1827. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, 4 pp. on rag paper, good; has a hole in the middle at the intersection of creases, and many tears from the edge. Some soiling, no foxing. Well printed so it is quite legible. This was a religious newspaper.

Boston: Charles Hale, 1860. Periodical. Very Good+. The original newspaper, 4 pp. (a giant paper, with 8 columns per page), vg+; has a few brown spots but is remarkably bright, and free of edgewear. Has a notice of the trial of 'Stephens' in Charlestown Virginia; this was Aaron Stevens, one of John Brown's close associates. He was later hanged.

Haverhill, Mass.: A.W. Thayer, 1832. Periodical. Good+. The original newspaper, 4 pp., good plus. Somewhat sunned, and has sm. holes at creases.

Boston: William Burdick, 1813. First Edition . Periodical. Fair. The original newspaper, 4 pp. in fair condition, edges very tattered. No words lost.

New Haven, Conn.: Oliver Steele & Co., 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on uneven laid paper, good only; stained and fairly heavily foxed. Much about the looming war with Britain; this paper is opposed.

New Haven, Conn.: Oliver Steele, 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. Good; has a lg. brown stain down the middle of the top half, smaller ones elsewhere, also some foxing. Much shipping news, and an editorial on government spending.

New Haven, Conn.: Oliver Steele, 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. Good; evenly foxed, with an old waterstain at the lower right corner. A series of holes along the left side testifies to its having been bound in a folio of papers. 4 pp. on laid paper. Has reports on arguments in the Senate over whether to go to war with England, France, or neither.

New Haven: Oliver Steele, 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, 4 pp. on laid paper, disbound from a folio. Good; has old stains, heavy edgewear, several words obscured by sm. blots on p. 3-4, and a hole through the upper left corner that affects several more. The front page prints part 1 of a long article on Andrew Jackson's relations with Britain, describing the conditions that soon would lead to the 'War of 1812'. Also an article on French conscription and references to American ships being taken in Tunis (this was the precursor to the Marines' landing on "the Shores of Tripoli"), and a brief notice of the condition of the Cherokee Indians, listing possessions that included 583 Negro slaves.

Hartford, Conn.: Hudson & Goodwin, 1811. Periodical. Very Good. The highest price in Cash paid for Calves Pates, by the Printers hereof." (Calves pates, the skin of the forehead, was used for sizing paper.) The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on laid paper, vg; some scattered foxing and a sm. waterstain at the bottom edge. A fascinating paper, with news of Napoleon's maneuverings against the British; reports of Napoleon's "Non-Intercourse Law", which blockaded most of the ports of Europe for years, and started many small wars including our 'War of 1812'; and an editorial critical of Madison's invasion of Spanish Florida (left more or less unattended while Napoleon pestered the Spanish government).

New Haven, Conn.: Oliver Steele, 1810. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper, disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on laid paper, good; there are 2 brown stains at each end of the middle fold. Light foxing, mostly on p. 4, and almost no edgewear. Has an interesting notice of Herschel's Telescope: "By its aid Dr. Herschel has been able to observe the lightning in the atmosphere of the moon, and has found out several celestial bodies, unknown to previous astronomers." Also much discussion of U.S. relations with Britain, France, Russia, etc.
