Hardcovers bound in 19th century 3/4 brown leather with plum cloth-covered boards. All edges marbled. Red and black leather labels on the spines. The bindings are rubbed and scuffed but sound. Possible ex-library set with evidence of labels removed from the spines. No interior library markings. The front pastedowns have a prior owner's 1936 signature ("Ian Battle"?) from Edinburgh. Endpapers foxed. The text is toned but generally clean. Complete three volume set.

Hardcovers bound in early full calf with gilt tooling on the spines. Spines with green leather lettering pieces. Light to moderate rubbing and wear to the bindings. The corners are bumped. The hinges are sound. The front pastedown of each volume has the bookplate of "Vice Admiral Young" showing a shield with a stag above and three lions within. The crest motto is, "Prae Utilitate Patria." William Young (1751-1821) was an officer of the Royal Navy. He saw action in the American Revolution as well as the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The jacket has a 1 3/4 tear at the top edge of the front and rear panels with some creasing at the top edge of the rear panel. Jacket is a bit dulled. Remainder mark at the bottom edge of the text block. Text is sound and clean. Illustrated throughout with a few illustrations in color.

This copy came from the collection of North Carolina historian and author William S. Powell, with a form letter to him from the Allen Simpson of the Museum.

Hardcovers bound in brown cloth with black and red faux labels on the spines. Collates complete with 8 folding maps, including a folding facsimile map of North America at the front of Volume I. This is a REPRINT of the 1741 edition. Bindings have light wear. The upper right corner of volume one has a small scuff and the rear board has some rubbing at the upper edge and along the hinge. Edges of both text blocks are foxed with heavy foxing on the top edges. The front hinge of volume one is loose but gutter is whole, no tears. Endpapers are foxed. The front flyleaf of each volume has the signature and blindstamp impression of Charles D. Rodenbough, a North Carolina historian. Text is foxed, has occasional light pencil marks in the margins and underlining in pencil. There are some post it flags placed in both volumes.
