The leather is cracked and chipped, especially at the spine ends. The front hinge is cracking, but the text block is sound. Marbled endpapers are worn and chipped. The title page is soiled, and the text block is mostly clean but has some stains. All edges red. A rough translation of the title into English is, "Abridged from Mr. Locke's Essay on Human Understanding, Translated from English.

The binding shows some rubbing and wear and has some scuff marks on the front cover. Top corners bumped. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Top edge of the text block has some pale spotting, and the top corner of the text is bumped in places, but the text is unmarked. Some of the chapters towards the rear include "Plato and Aristotle" and chapters on Kant and Spinoza.

The bindings measure 5 1/4 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide. Hardcovers bound in early 3/4 leather with grey and green marbled paper-covered boards. The bindings are quite rubbed and worn with scuffing about the edges and some abrasions to the hinges. Scuffs and wear to the spines. There are a few little chips along the hinges, but the bindings are still sound. The text is toned and foxed with some heavier browning and soiling at the front of Volume I. This is a collection of articles and pamphlets that have been photocopied (mimeographed?) and bound together as a publication from the Horace Williams Society. Henry Horace Williams (1858-1940) was a professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1890 to 1940.

The overwhelming bulk of the book is the illustrations. Hardback with a white and green dust jacket. The jacket shows wear with several large chips on the edges, including at the top left corner of the front panel and a 3 inch tear at that chip. Many of the illustrations show title pages or portions of the text of books, portraits, statues and sculptures, facsimiles of drawings, and cityscapes from older books. John Amos Comenius (1592-1690) was a Czech philosopher and theologian from the Margraviate of Moravia who is considered the father of modern Educaiton. Text is in Czech.
