Presentation copy, warmly inscribed as follows: "Inscribed to Fred S. Meigs whose extraordinary proficiency as a librarian was of inestimable help to me in writing this book. Julius A. Furer, Washington D.C., August 18, 1960." Meigs was a librarian at the Navy Library in Washington. Included is a tipped in card, taped to the ffep, presenting this book to Meigs from Rear Admiral Ernest McNeill Eller, who wrote the introduction to this book. Clean, unmarked book, binding tight. An exhaustive analysis of Navy administrative efforts during World War II. Book condition VG+, with the covers showing just a hint of shelf wear.

Bloomington, Illinois: 516th Q. M. Regiment "Last Man's Club, [1983?]. HB. Green simulated leather, gilt lettering on front cover, 4to, approximately 200 pp. This book consists of all the mailings sent to members of the 516th Quartermaster Regiment from 1951 to 1983. It was created for a member, Ralph R. Viggers, whose address was unknown until 1983. The 516 Quartermaster Regiment was formed with the help of the American Trucking Association during 1942 and received training at Camp Van Dorn, near Centreville, Mississippi. It shipped out from Wilmington, California, arriving at Khorramshahr, Iran in 1943 as part of the Persian Gulf Command with the task of delivering Lend-Lease material to Russia. After the Allied landings in France, the 516th was transferred to Europe and assigned to George Patton's 3rd Army, hauling gas for Patton's tanks. Philadelphia: John C. Winston Company, 1955. First Edition. HB. Quarter red cloth over black cloth boards, gilt lettering on front cover and spine, 8vo, 248 pp. Top edge of text block stained red. Author's memoir of his experiences during World War II as a soldier in the 115th Panzer Grenadiers first on the eastern front, and later transferred to Italy, where he was captured by Americans. Sent to a prisoner-of-war camp in Illinois, he escaped near the end of the war, ran a bookshop in Chicago until discovered by the FBI in 1953, and returned to Germany. Pabel later opened a successful book selling business in Hamburg that is still operational today. SIGNED by the author top of FFEP. Owner's name, inked out, on FFEP, owner's label bottom of ffep, no other marks in book, binding tight. Covers clean, edges of text block show very light soiling. In an unclipped ($3.50) dust jacket that shows light chipping and edge wear. Book condition VG in VG- DJ.
