Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1904. Fourth edition. 7" x 4¾", maroon cloth, pp. 91, + 14 pp. publisher's catalogue. This copy bears the ownership signature of classical scholar Charles Norris Cochrane, (1889-1945), author of "Christianity and Classical Culture", 1940. George [Parkin] Grant considered Christianity and Classical Culture to be "the most important book ever written by a Canadian". Harold Innis referred to it as "the first major Canadian contribution to the intellectual history of the West". Here, in Aristophanes' text, Cochrane has made numerous markings and comments in the margins. The front hinge paper is split [hinge remains firm] else a very good copy..

This copy bears the ownership signature of classical scholar Charles Norris Cochrane, (1889-1945), author of "Christianity and Classical Culture", (1940). George [Parkin] Grant considered "Christianity and Classical Culture" to be "the most important book ever written by a Canadian". Harold Innis referred to it as "the first major Canadian contribution to the intellectual history of the West". Here, in Aristophanes' text, Cochrane has made numerous markings and comments in the margins. The book has been damaged by two punctures through the front cover and passing through the text block, leaving small holes and identations in the text, and affecting Cochrane's signature. The book is otherwise a sound copy..
