Soon everyone is a peninsular town begins getting sick with the same illness, which the doctor has never seen before. As soon as he calls the county medical examiner about it, the area is quarantined and shut off from information. Riots begin on both sides on the quarantine as more and more people die in the small town. General debauchery, chaos and fervent religiosity reign supreme in the final days of the town, left to die while, unbeknownst to the government, some sneak out to Denmark to seek help via scuba diving and laugh when someone takes their picture and offers them money for the shot. The story in the early treatment script found here is divided into three parts and 21 acts beginning on page 41. The preceding 40 pages are broken into three main sections, "The Story and How It is Told," "Danger," and "The Characters," to which screenwriter Robert Bloch devotes 36 pages and divides into three sections, "The Principals," "The Supporting Roles," and "The Comet." Famed author Bloch's substantial early treatment of H.G. Wells' 1906 novel, "In the Days of the Comet," which was created for legendary animator, director, and producer George Pal, noted as "A George Pal Production" on the front wrapper, for CBS television, which Bloch envisioned as a 1980 CBS mini-series. After the critical and commercial success of 1972's "Deliverance," director John Boorman was given almost total creative freedom for his next film. He responded by costuming Sean Connery (in only his second post-Bond film) in red briefs and suspenders, thigh-high boots, a handlebar mustache, and a long braid, and setting him loose in a utopian city of nearly catatonically bored immortals as a ruthless killer doing the violent bidding of a giant, floating, talking stone head. In his spare time, he mates and has a child with Charlotte Rampling. Somewhat obviously, the film has since become a cult classic. Shot on location in Ireland. 9.25 x 7 inches. Both drafts SIGNED by screenwriter David Henderson in manuscript ink on the title page in 1992, and each has a lengthy inscription about the development of the script, noting "Michael L. Parker" and his investment in the film, the script's general plot and characters, a proposed directorial role for Robert N. Zagone ("San Francisco Rock: A Night at the Family Dog," 1970 television movie), and revisions Henderson made in order to "make the film roughly a page a minute." A cursory look at the script leads us to believe the story is set in a desolate, perhaps post-apocalyptic Southwest landscape, and the overall theme seems to have crime/thriller elements (i.e. murder, guns, swords). 1987 draft: Blue stiff titled wrappers.
