Description:
Np: Np, 1524. Fine. Van Leyden, Lucas. 12 x 7.5 cm. One copper engraved plate. BARTSCH B13. Lucas van Leyden was among the first Dutch exponents of genre painting and is generally regarded as a very accomplished engraver. Born in 1494, the engravings herein are early efforts by a highly skilled engraver who learned his art at a very early age: the earliest known print by him (Mohammed and the Murdered Monk) dates from 1508, when he was perhaps only 14. 1524 date appears at lower left corner of the engraving at Abel's knee. Tipped onto paper leaf.
