Here is an alphabetical list of 4,627 Revolutionary soldiers and sailors from Virginia who received land warrants in what is now the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The entries include the number of each warrant, the acres of land granted, the soldier's rank and department of service, and the term and date of warrant .

Published originally as History Bulletin II by the New York State Library, this work is composed of two parts: (1) a miscellaneous record of deeds, mortgages, bonds, powers of attorney, and depositions running from January 10, 1658 to November 4, 1660; and (2) a series of wills, inventories, and settlements of estates from January 5, 1681 to October 30, 1765. The contents, which were abstracted from records found in the Albany County clerk's office, were translated from the original Dutch by Jonathan Pearson and readied for publication by A.J.F. Van Laer. This unique source of Revolutionary War pensioners has never before been published and contains information which does not appear in the Pension List of 1813 or the Pension List of 1818. According to the <I>Guide to Genealogical Research in the National Archives</I>, "many of these pensioners were Revolutionary War veterans whose papers were presumably destroyed in the War Department fires of 1800 and 1814." This index is based on a War Department account book, or ledger, showing the amount of semi-annual payments made in March and September to each pensioner for each year of the reporting period, 1801-1815. During the period covered, pensions were paid to well over 2,000 Revolutionary veterans and to several hundred officers and soldiers who served in the frontier wars after 1783. .

The Pension List of 1820, compiled in pursuance of a Congressional Act of 1818 and containing 17,000 entries, is the most complete list of Revolutionary War pensioners compiled up to the date of its publication. Of all the Hessian units employed by England during the American Revolutionary War, none traveled more widely than the 3rd English-Waldeck Regiment. This contingent of men served in the New York-New Jersey area, West Florida, and the Mississippi River area. They were held prisoner at various times in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Some deserters joined the American army and served under George Roger Clark in the Illinois country. In addition, the unit traveled to Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, and Nova Scotia.
