Description:
Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Company. New. (1985) 2008. Hardcover. Index. 318 pages. The 10,000 vital records in this work come from marriage and death columns in five western New York newspapers published before 1850: the Republican Advocate of Baravia, the Steuben Farmers Advocate of Bath, the Geneva Gazette, the Jamestown Journal, and Palmyr's Wayne Sentinel. Birth announcements were not published in these early newspapers, but many of the marriage and death notices mentioned birth years, birthplaces, and parents' names, and such facts have been recorded in this book. All death notices are listed in alphabetical order, marriage officials are identified in the appendix,a dn all others mentioned in the text are listed in the index. The abstracted records furnish names, ages, dates, places of tresidence, frequent references to family members and a good deal of ther information. .

Description:
Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co. New. (1986) 2008. Hardcover. Index. The 10,000 vital records referred to in the title of this work were drawn from the marriage and death columns of various central New York newspapers published before 1850, specifically those published in the section of the state between Geneva and Utica. The bulk of the work concerns itself with the marriages and deaths of residents of central New York, and in the absence of "official" vital records for the area it stands as an almost perfect substitute. Like official records of a later date, the records abstracted here provide names, ages, dates, places of residence, and frequent references to family members, and a good deal of other information. .

Description:
Bowie: Heritage Books, Inc.. New. 1990. Paperback. Index. . 301 pages. Bibliographies of local history are essential research tools for historians, genealogists, and book collectors. This volume is an attempt to bring together citations to all the books and pamphlets dealing with New York State history at the local or community level that were published between 1900 and 1987; also included are some of the more important local history publications published prior to 1900 as well as a few works published as recently as 1989. It is not an attempt to compile a complete bibliography of the state which would undoubtedly require several large volumes, but rather, is directed more specifically to the needs of the local history and genealogy researcher. Material pertaining to the history of the major cities of the state has generally been excluded. Periodical articles and manuscript materials have also been excluded. About 2,500 publications are described in the listings which are arranged by… Read More

Description:
New York: New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. New with No dust jacket as issued. 1989. Hardcover. 256 pages. Dr. Scott abstracted the first twenty years of New York City Coroners' reports held by the Municipal Archives. His abstracts of similar reports from before 1823 were published in The NYG&B Record in 1988-89 (119:76,145,217; 120:18,88) and aroused a great deal of interest and favorable comment. These abstracts, revealing a fascinating cross-section of life in a rapidly growing city, are certain to be of interest not only to genealogists but to historians of 19th century urban life, crime, and public health. These are, of course, reports of deaths under unusual or suspicious circumstances, ranging from suicides to murders to accidents of every description. Persons found on the street died from a myriad of diseases. The victims were of all ages and social classes, black and white, native and immigrant, and many of the reports give genealogically useful information.… Read More

Description:
Heritage Books. New. 1995. Paperback. 477 pages. Prior to 1880 the best source for vital records was local newspapers. With this in mind, this book presents death and marriage notices abstracted from Washington County, New York, newspapers from 1799 to 1880--data which may be otherwise difficult to come by, and which is undoubtedly a valuable aid to researchers. Although published in Washington County, these notices are not limited to Washington County. Chronologically arranged the death notices include: date of death; the deceased's age at death, birth date, family members, residence(s), military experience, and occupation. .

Heritage Books. New. (1996) 2012. Trade Paperback. 131 pages. Originally abstracted from the local newspapers of Tompkins County, the data in this book was compiled from records of the DeWitt Historical Society in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca, the major city of Tompkins County, is where most of the deaths and marriages took place. Most notices are dated between 1870 and 1890 although earlier and later notices are included. Sources are always identified in the entries by title and publication date. Death records contain the name of the subject, the subject’s age, the date of death and the place of death; marriage records contain the names of bride, groom and officiating clergy, the date and location of the service, and the hometown(s) of the bride and groom. When known, information such as occupation, names of relatives and/or cause of death has been added. All entries are arranged alphabetically by surname. An index to brides’ surnames and the well-ordered appearance of this book… Read More

Description:
Baltimore: Clearfield. New. 1998. Paperback. 0.8 x 9.9 x 6.9 Inches. 308 pages. No other official record or group of records is as historically significant as the 1790 census of the United States. The taking of this census marked the inauguration of a process that continues right up to our own day--the enumeration at ten-year intervals of the entire American population. In its very continuity the census is a mirror image of the evolution of the American republic, and the census of 1790, the first official enumeration of all heads of household residing in the infant republic, is the true starting point of this process, the place where we can point a finger and say with confidence, "This is where it started! From here on we deal with facts!" The equivalent of England's Domesday Book, the 1790 census is an authentic chronicle of the American people during the period immediately following the Revolution and at the time of the adoption of the Constitution. It is certain that no… Read More
