Thin trade pb with glossy magenta covers, 38 unnumbered pp, color illustrations throughout. Ann Preston - Quaker, abolitionist and temperance adherent from Pennsylvania - published this book of moral stories and poems in 1849. The solemn stories include some about the ills of slavery, and the first narrative of Henry "Box" Brown's escape escape from slavery by mailing himself in a wooden crate. Like New: light shelfwear (bumping on top edge), clean, crisp, pages bright, unmarked. Note: This is listed under Vintage Children's because of the 1849 content, but it's a recently published book.
