Boston: Boston Society of Natural History, 1928. Volume 6, Number 3 of the Memoirs of the Boston Society of Natural History. Pages 111-485 + 23 plates (some in color). Feodor Dmitrievich Pleske was the first Russian ornithologist to be published in the English language when he wrote this book under the name Theodore Pleake. It is a detailed monograph on the birds of arctic Europe and Asia with the results of Baron von Toll's Russian Polar Expedition of 1900-1903 incorporated in the account. The book is in generally good condition: internally clean and tight, with rubbing along edges of boards (worn through to boards in a few spots; relatively minor fraying of cloth at head and foot of spine.. Description:
London, 1896. Keulemans was one of the most prolific of the 19th century illustrators of birds. He was known for his accurate and realistic portrayals. In the lithograph offered her, the soft pastels of the lithographed background nicely set off the bright vibrant handcoloring of the eagles. The prints in Dresser's book were issued in 93 parts between 1871 and 1896. The condition of this original lithograph is very good+: generally clean and bright; paper only faintly toned; 3 small smudges in the margin will not be visible when the print is matted. First Edition. Single Sheet. Very Good+. Illus. by J. G. Keulemans. Large Quarto (12 1/2" X 9 3/4"). Fine Art Print.

Huntington, West Virginia: Unpublished, 2010. "Cardinals on Holly" is an original opaque watercolor (gouache) painting by celebrated wildlife artist Charles Lewis (Chuck) Ripper (1929-2019). Ripper’s detailed watercolors have appeared on 100 magazine covers, 81 United States postage stamps, and 575 conservation stamps for the National Wildlife Federation. "Cardinals on Holly" was painted circa 2010 by the artist for his friend Codell Jones. The painting measures 11 inches by 8 1/2 inches and is archivally double-matted (17" by 14 1/2") and shrinkwrapped. NOTE: Both the painting and the mat are in virtually perfect condition: any discoloration you see is a function of glare from being photographed in shrinkwrap.. SIGNED. Original Painting. Parallel text in both French and English. Both the printed French title page and the engraved English title page are present. All engravings were engraved by James Newton, from drawings by Barbut. James Barbut was an English artist and naturalist, who was an admirer of the work of Carl Linnaeus. The Natural History Museum, London holds 126 of the watercolors by Barbut that he painted for this book. The book is in about very good condition: the color engravings are clean and bright, with some minimal offsetting limited to the one folding plate; text pages are clean and supple, with minimal foxing, the spine leather is stripped, and boards are supported by the binding cords.. Autograph of famed naturalist and nature-writer John Burroughs (1837-1921) on mounting board under photographic portrait of Burroughs standing on the porch of Woodchuck Lodge, his summer home. Boldly signed in Burroughs hand: "Faithfully Yours, John Burroughs. The signature is guaranteed to be original and authentic. COA available upon request. The signature is slightly faded but still distinct. There is some light foxing on the still-bright portrait and minor soiling on the mount. On the verso is an earlier photo of Burroughs and the words "Slab Sides. September 6, '98." [Not in Burroughs' hand] Slabsides was a log cabin built by Burroughs and his son in 1895.
