In 1960, he was still in prison, the victim of inept psychiatrists, legal incompetence, institutional corruption, and a small-town sheriff who had wanted him out of the way. [Note: see DENNISON vs. STATE OF NEW YORK: 25 N.Y.2d 904 (1969); 23 N.Y.2d 996 (1969); 49 Misc.2d 533 (1966); 28 A.D.2d 608 (1967).]The Ordeal of Stephen Dennison is the true story of Dennison's long years of anguish; of his abrupt release; and of the two lawyers who investigated the legality of his incarceration and filed suit for $115,000…

Description:
First Edition. 232 p.; contains index. From back cover: Serial killers like Seattle's Ted Bundy, Maryland's Beltway Sniper, Atlanta's Wayne Williams, or England's Peter Sutcliffe usually outsmart the task forces on their trail for long periods of time. Keppel and Birnes take readers inside the operations of serial killer task forces to learn why. What is the underlying psychology of a serial killer and why this defeats task force investigations? This is the first book of its kind that combines state-of-the-art psychological assessment experience with the expertise of a homicide investigator who has tracked some of this country's most notorious serial killers. The author also brings to the book hands-on best practices gleaned from the experience of other task forces. Readers, both professional and students, will benefit from the comprehensive and critical case reviews, the analysis of what went wrong, what went right, and the after-action recommendations of evaluators in the US, UK, and Canada.

Description:
xiii, 744 p.; 24 cm. Includes Bibliography (pp. 619-692) and indices (pp. 725-744). Black cloth hard cover with gilt lettering to spine shows some edgewear and minor aging, with light foxing to endpapers, but the textblock is pristine, with no noticed markings, creases, or other defects. Dust jacket is price-clipped and is slightly faded, with wear commensurate with age, including small tears, but is housed in a protective cover to prevent further wear. At times surprisingly lucid, but often (and even hilariously) incorrect, it should be noted that the material contained in this book is extremely dated. Be prepared to encounter such as gems as: "Absolute women homosexuals are more psychopathic than men" (p. 610). From the dust jacket: THE SEXUAL OFFENDER AND HIS OFFENSES represents the first major work on the descriptive and clinical aspects of sexual abnormalities since Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis. It goes far beyond any existing work in charting and establishing the background and clinical…
