216 p.; ill. Very minor shelf wear, and a small initial in pen to upper corner of half-title, otherwise Fine.
From the back:
Norman "Red" Ryan was a notorious bank robber, safecracker, and killer. He escaped from Kingston Penitentiary twice—first by force, and then years later by gulling the credulous into believing that he was "reformed." Ryan's second emancipation included the prison's Roman Catholic chaplain, several nationally prominent citizens, the country's largest newspaper, and, ultimately, R. B. Bennett, the prime minister of Canada, who made the mistake of arranging a "political parole" for Ryan.
Six people—three of them innocent victims—died as a result of Red Ryan's freedom. Dubbed "the Jesse James of Canada" and "Canada's most notorious criminal," Ryan had compiled a record of nineteen convictions for crimes of theft and violence, and had been in nine shooting affrays with police and citizens. He was a "lifer" in an arrow when "life" meant just… Read More

From the dust jacket (also see note at bottom of listing): On June 6, 1957, the author of this book was convicted of the brutal murder of a fifteen-year-old girl. First Edition. (UK) xii, 709 p., [1] folded leaf (genealogical table). Deep red hardcover, with blindstamped cover, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, and red-coloured foredge (top edge only). The covers show some minor edgewear, the tip and heel of spine have some mild bumping, and the coloured foredge exhibits some fading, but it is otherwise Near Fine, with the exception of the folded leaf of the genealogical tree, which has been previously misfolded, resulting in a few very small closed tears to its far edge. The dust jacket is housed in a removable protective sleeve to prevent further damage, but the paper is aged, with some sunning, and tears and chips to edges. See listing images for details. From dust jacket flaps: In The Bright Pavilions, Hugh Walpole goes back to Elizabethan days for a new Chronicle of the Herries family. Cumberland is again the central ground of the story. The dust jacket shows retail sticker residue, some shelfwear, and a small 1cm closed tear to tip of spine. From dust jacket: There have been several instances in our time when famous novelists have turned crime-reporter and tackled the courtroom drama of major trials: Sybille Bedford covered the Bodkin-Adams trial in England and the Jack Ruby trial in Dallas; Rebecca West's The Meaning of Treason had its source in the trial of Klaus Fuchs. RARE. Approx. 10 p. (unnumbered); ill. Ex-library (the now-defunct Junto Local 91 Radical Library of Winnipeg) with stamp and mild shelfwear, otherwise Very Good. From the intro: Cascadia Ascendant is a new zine series originating in PDX. Its goal is to provide relevant perspectives on issues facing the current "movement of movements." There is a worldwide resistance to domination in all its forms, one that resonates strongly with the Pacific Northwest's history of environmentalism and Labor organizing. It was for a reason that George HW Bush called Portland "Little Beirut".The zine advocates not for the romantic ideal of Cascadian nationalism, but for concrete changes and development of social architecture that would allow people to shake their dependency on the current system.

First Edition.310 p.; illustrated. Good dust jacket in removable protective cover. Tiny dot stain to rear endpaper, and tip of spine is slightly bumped, otherwise clean, bright, tightly bound, Fine condition. From the DJ flaps: Most observers agree that Senator Edward M. Kennedy could have been the President of the U.S. and the leader of the Free World. But, his destiny was shattered near a small bridge on an island named Chappaquiddick. CHAPPAQUIDDICK REVEALED was written because author Ken Kappel discovered powerful new factual evidence that had never been available to the American people.
- According to photographic analysis Kennedy's car may have been in another accident before the one at the bridge. (See photo section)
- Blood stains on Mary Jo Kopechne's blouse must have dried—and set—prior to the plunge into the water, indicating that she was injured in an earlier accident, before the bridge.
- The car may have been purposely pushed, not driven, off the bridge after this earlier… Read More

First edition, first printing. 96 p. ; ill. ; 24 cm. Includes Index (pp. 94-96), chronology, and suggested further reading. This is a book in sort of large print, presumably intended for mature younger students.Black hardcover and dust jacket are in Near Fine to Fine condition with the exception of very minimal shelfwear, a few lightly dogeared pages, and a few very small and faint stains. Discard from the Wanipigow School Library, in protective plastic sleeve, with associated stickers, stamps, and card pocket (checked out only once, 30 years ago). From the dust jacket: "You are destined to be the leaders of a glorious new order," Adolf Hitler told the young people of Germany in 1938. This was the calculated appeal that masked the Nazi leader's plan to mold the youth of a nation to his will. His main tool would be the Hitler Youth, an organization that drew in Germany's young people with promises of a bright future and then sought to turn them into obedient servants of the Nazi regime. The Hitler Youth… Read More

Description:
First Edition.
120 p.; ill. Scarce book with minor scrapes/shelfwear to dust jacket. Heel and tip of spine slightly bumped, otherwise Fine. From dust jacket:
In Dangerous Luck, David Makow brings into focus the profound questions as to whether a person's life unfolds by his own volition, circumstances, fate, or luck.
A teenager when the Nazi war machine rolled into his native Poland, he survived on his wits and his ability to make quick decisions that turned out to be the correct ones.
His first fortunate decision was made as the German army approached the city of Lodz, where he lived. While many were leaving by foot or horse cart, he decided to remain with his parents and wait for the Germans to arrive. Those who left were strafed mercilessly by German aircraft on the road to Warsaw. Another lucky decision was to move to the interior of Poland just before the Lodz ghetto was established.
In 1942, when the Holocaust began, he made his most amazing choice. Instead of trying to get as far as he… Read More

Advance uncorrected page proof. 197 p.; ill. (maps). Includes Appendix, Notes, Glossary, and Bibliography. Mild shelfwear, including but not limited to impressions and sticker residue, but internally Fine, seemingly unread. From the back: Prior histories of the first Spanish mariners to circumnavigate the globe in the sixteenth century have focused on Ferdinand Magellan and the other illustrious leaders of these daring expeditions. Harry Kelsey's masterfully researched study is the first to concentrate on the hitherto anonymous sailors, slaves, adventurers, and soldiers who manned the ships. The author contends that these initial transglobal voyages occurred by chance, beginning with the launch of Magellan's armada in 1519, when the crews dispatched by the king of Spain to claim the Spice Islands in the western Pacific were forced to seek a longer way home, resulting in bitter confrontations with rival Portuguese.
