These are reports from the first two census taken in the colony, at the time of the first census 236,798 people lived in the colony ( unfortunately Aboriginal people were not officially included in this census, only some aboriginals who were "permanently settled" were counted) The largest community were English-born, with 97,943 people, followed by the Irish and Scottish communities. Dr Stefansson (The famous Arctic explorer) was the guest of the Commonwealth Government, he traveled from Adelaide to Oodnadatta by train, and by motor car from Oodnadatta to Alice Springs and back.
