Ickes was Petroleum Administrator in WWII, and Oveta Hobby served as the first Director of the Women's Army Corps, and the first Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare when it was founded in the 1950's. Her husband, former Governor of Texas William P. Hobby, is who Hobby Airport in Houston is named for.
