The is a stated first edition of Back to Blood, the 5th novel of American writer Tom Wolfe. It is a devastating critique of current Miami and American society. Description:
This is a well-loved copy of The Cash Boy, by the American author Horatio Alger (1832-1899).It was originally published by A.L. Burt in 1887, as 'Frank Fowler, the Cash Boy'.The story follows the usual Alger line: I've found this summary:Through some conspiracy, the hero of the story when a baby, was taken from his relatives and given into the care of a kind woman. Not knowing his name, she gave him her husband's name, Frank Fowler. She had one little daughter, Grace, and showing no partiality in the treatment of her children, Frank never suspected that she was not his sister. However, at the death of Mrs. Fowler, all this was related to Frank.

The children were left alone in the world. It seemed as though they would have to go to the poorhouse but Frank could not become reconciled to that. A kind neighbor agreed to care for Grace, so Frank decided to start out in the world to make his way. He had many disappointments and hardships, but through his kindness to an old man, his own… Read More

The jacket has a 1/4" tear at the top right; it has been taped from behind.
The spine of the dust jacket is faded.
On the inside front page, over the publisher's info, there is a tiny hand-written note from one person to another. It is in the top left corner, so it can be snipped off.

This book was published by T Nelson & Sons--it is the UK edition, published in 1889.
The boards are a nice dark cherry red, with the title and a design etched into the cover.
The text and design on the spine are bright gold.
There are a couple of minor marks on the covers, and some dark colouring on the spine. Inside, the spine is tight.
There is an unusual lack of shelf wear to the edges of the covers, as if it was stored in a drawer.
Pages 320-323 have a 2" tear from the bottom and will have to be restored.
The pages are darkened, as you would expect from a book of this age, but it is perfectly readable. A lovely old book.
The Deerslayer, or The First War-Path (1841) was the last of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales to be written. Its 1740-1745 time period makes it the first installment chronologically and in the lifetime of the hero Natty Bumppo. The novel's setting, on Otsego Lake in upstate New York, is the same as that of The Pioneers, the first of the Leatherstocking Tales to be… Read More

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
This is a 'best of' collection, Essays, Poems and Addresses, published by Walter J Black for the Classics Club in 1969.
It is beige tweed boards with red and brilliant gold on the cover and spine; the top pages are dyed red.
There is a bookplate on the inside front cover, but it has already started to come off on its own and you can remove it (there are how-to videos online; it's really easy).

This book was first published in 1912, by Harper & Brothers New York. It was revised (by Dreiser) in 1927, which is also when it was first published in Britain, by Constable & Company, which published reprints in 1931 and twice in 1936. This is a copy of that second 1936 printing.
The Financier - Story
Frank Cowperwood, a fiercely ambitious businessman, emerges as the very embodiment of greed as he relentlessly seeks satisfaction in wealth, women, and power. As Cowperwood deals and double-deals, betrays and is in turn betrayed, his rise and fall come to represent the American success story stripped down to brutal realities--a struggle for spoils without conscience or pity. Dreiser's 1912 classic, which is based on the life of streetcar tycoon Charles Yerkes, remains an unsparing social critique as well as a devastating character study of one of the most unforgettable American businessmen in twentieth-century literature.
