Description:
This is a first edition of Caesars of the Wilderness, written in 1987 by the Canadian journalist Peter C Newman. It is part two of his history of the Hudson's Bay Company; in this volume, we learn about the war for supremacy over the North American fur trade, and the territory ranging from San Francisco to the Beaufort Sea. The competition was between the Hudson's Bay's Fur Brigades, and their arch-rivals the Northwest Company, an incredible battle that remains the fiercest commercial feud in history. THE FOUNDER'S TOUCH is the exciting account of a vast business built from scratch, the story of a man whose life reflected the changing world of the twentieth century. Like Edison, Ford, & Firestone, among others, Galvin could not be contained by the limited horizons of his small midwestern hometown. In 1923, he moved to Chicago to manufacture storage batteries with his brother Joe. A new American society was forming; industry had grown & was growing still. On the wave of radio's popularity, Galvin's small manufacturing company enjoyed a mild success. His limitless energy demanded new outlets, & with his brother & talented associates he developed a radio that could be used…

Description:
This is a stated first edition (2005) of The Pirates Laffite, The Treacherous World of the Corsairs of the Gulf, the story of the two brothers who ran a notorious privateering cooperative in New Orleans from 1803-1823. Labeled as corsairs and buccaneers for methods that bordered on piracy, the brothers imported contraband goods and made life hell for Spanish merchants on the Gulf. They became important members of a syndicate that included lawyers, bankers, merchants, and corrupt U.S. officials. But they were also paid Spanish spies, handing over information about the syndicate's plans and selling out their own associates. The book was written by the American historian William C Davis, who conducted exhaustive research. The book is 706 pages, but the last 200 are explanatory notes and the index. There are also a few photos and illustrations. This copy does not appear to have been read. Its only flaw is that, in production, the front endpaper and title page became stuck to the cover, at the top corner.…
