Description:
This is a stated first edition of Emperor of the North: Sir George Simpson and the Remarkable Story of the Hudson's Bay Company.
Canada, and North America, cannot be understood without discussing the influence of the Hudson's Bay Company, which once covered 1/12th of the world's land, and remains the world's oldest retailer. It played a huge role in the creation of Canada, and that would not have been possible without George Simpson, who was the HBC governor for 40 years. Simpson not only made the company profitable, he ensured British control of western and northern Canada by negotiating with Americans, First Nations and Russians.
This is a lovely book, full of maps, photos and drawings. Unclipped dust jacket.
It has not been read and is in pristine condition.
Note: The price for shipping this book outside of North America is for surface mail without tracking. For other options, please contact me.

Description:
This is the Expo '86 Commemorative Poster commissioned by the organizers of the world's fair, and by the City of Vancouver for its 100th Anniversary.
The theme of Expo was Man in Motion. It was designed and executed by Canadian artist Steve Woodhouse. As you can tell, I had a bit of time getting decent pictures. Photo 4 shows the glow of it (under a bare light bulb). It is on paper and it is entirely in 24k Gold Leaf. There were only 5 created in gold leaf; this is one of them.
A limited edition set of prints was also made.It reads (also in Braille):
Vancouver Commemorative
Global Achievements of Human InteractionA People A Place An EventIt is in a gold metal frame; 20 1/4" x 26 1/2"
Covered in glass.
NOTE: $100 of the sale price is the cost of shipping, and I've probably under-estimated it.The frame and glass make it heavy.UPS will charge about $60 to pack it for shipping. But the frame is ordinary gold-colored metal; if I remove it from the frame and send it in a tube, the price will drop by… Read More

Description:
Stephen Leacock (1869-1944) was a Canadian teacher, political scientist, writer, and humorist. From 1915 to1925, he was the best-known English-speaking humorist in the world.
He is famous for his not-unkind criticisms of people's follies and foibles and is still called 'the funniest man who ever lived.'
Leacock wrote 22 works of non-fiction, 2 biographies and 29 novels; Model Memoirs is his 23rd. It was published in 1938 by Dodd Mead. As was the case with all of his books, additional printings had to be done regularly—this is a copy from the 4th printing, in 1940.
316 pages, 5 1/4" x 7 1/2"
It is red boards with an imprinted design on the cover and gold lettering on the spine. There is a little fading to the spine but no real shelf wear.
The covers are in perfect condition.
It was given to a father from a son in 1941; on the front endpaper, the son inscribed it, in pencil, the father signed it in ink.
Aside from that, there are no marks in the book. The spine is nice and tight. It is in perfect… Read More

Description:
This is an unread copy of The New Morningside Papers, the second volume of letters, opinion and stories by the famed Canadian journalist and broadcaster Peter Gzowski (1934-2002). Gzowski hosted various shows on CBC Radio for 30 years; his pieces are funny, sad, entertaining and informative.I say that this is a first edition because I don't believe that his books were ever issued in hardcover. If they were, the soft cover editions were issued in the same year. I've only seen them in 6" x 9" trade paperback, which is what this copy is. 408 pages, with little illustrations. This book has never been read, or even opened. But the paper has darkened quite a bit. The covers have a tiny bit of shelfwear, just at the edges. Other than that, it's perfect.

Description:
This is the fifth novel from the brilliant Canadian novelist Gail Anderson-Dargatz, published in 2016. It takes place in the Thompson-Shuswap region of British Columbia, specifically around a bend in the river where the salmon run.
On one side of the river is a ranch once owned by Eugene Robertson, who came in the gold rush around 1860. On the other side is a Shuswap community that has its own tangled history with the river--and the whites. At the heart of the novel are Hannah and Brandon Robertson, teenagers who have been raised by their grandfather after they lost their mother. As the novel opens, the river is dying, its flow reduced to a trickle, and Hannah is carrying salmon past the choke point to the spawning grounds while her childhood best friend, Alex, leads a Native protest against the development further threatening the river. When drowning nearly claims the lives of both Hannah's grandfather and her little brother, their world is thrown into chaos.
This is a pristine first edition. It has… Read More
