This is three vintage pieces of religious music.

Heis a song about God, written in 1954 by Jack Richards, with lyrics by Richard Mullan. in 1954. The first recording to be released was by Al Hibbler, whose version reached No. 4 on Billboard's chart of Best Sellers in Stores, No. 7 on Billboard's Top 100, No. 7 on Billboard's chart of Most Played by Jockeys, and No. 8 on Billboard's chart of Most Played in Juke Boxes. The McGuire Sisters recorded it, as did The Righteous Brothers, and Diana Ross & The Supremes. It was a top-ten hit for Andy Williams in 1960.
This is a copy of the original music, published by Avas Music in 1954, with Hibbler on the cover.
There are tiny bits of wear to the edges and the original owner's label will have to be steamed off. Both are in excellent condition.

This is a near-perfect copy of The Book of Tea: A Japanese Harmony of Art, Culture and the Simple Life, written in 1906 by the Japanese scholar Okakura Kakuzo (1863-1913). It is the earliest English-language account of Zen Buddhism and its relation to the arts. Okakura's view was that "tea is more than an idealization of the form of drinking; it is a religion of the art of life."
It was written in English and is a long essay, broken into chapters. This printing is a replica of the original, in that the heading of each chapter has an illustration with an ink drawing by the Japanese painter Sesshu (1420-1506) and the portrait of Okakura by Kanzan Shimomura (1873-1930).
133 pages on fine paper. 5" x 7 3/4". In slipcase. Includes the original publisher's wrapper.
The slipcase is a little worn. The front endpapers have indentations to the paper. But this book has not been read and is otherwise in perfect condition.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
This is a 'best of' collection, Essays, Poems and Addresses, published by Walter J Black for the Classics Club in 1969.
It is beige tweed boards with red and brilliant gold on the cover and spine; the top pages are dyed red.
There is a bookplate on the inside front cover, but it has already started to come off on its own and you can remove it (there are how-to videos online; it's really easy).
Unread and pristine. The dark mark you see in the cover image is my shadow.

It is undated, but the last hymn is God Save the King, and Loth started working for the Waterloo Music Co in 1942, so it's likely from the early 40s.See scan of first lines of hymns.Excellent condition. There are some thumbprints on the cover and a crease to the back. The inside is perfect.2.Singing Youth for Christ is a 4" x 6" spiral-bound book of dozens of hymns over 116 pages. In nine chapters, The Golden Scarecrow presents nine stories of nine children, united by location. A tenth story of a tenth life, divided into Prologue and Epilogue, provides a different sort of unity. They are both gentle and horrible tales.
This book is an exercise in entering into the minds/hearts of children
The premise is that children come into this world with a knowledge of the world they have left behind and a spiritual link to it through a companion just referred to as their Friend. Some adults are able to mature without losing their Friend and some children push him away when they are still small. It needs the heart of a child and a willingness to believe in things we can't see.
Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole (1884 - 1941) was one of the most popular authors of his time. He wrote 36 novels, and five volumes of short stories; his most famous novel is Rogue Herries.

The Holy Sinner is the last book written (in 1951) by the German writer and Nobel Laureate Thomas Mann (1975-1955). It explores the origins of evil, original sin, and evil's connection with magic.
This is the first American edition, also dated 1951.
336 pages. Dark blue boards with the title impressed on the cover and gold lettering on spine.
The original owner signed the front endpaper. Minor darkening of the paper at the edges.
Other than that, it's in mint condition.

In This House of Brede is a 1969 novel by the British novelist Rumer Godden (1907-1998).It is a serious portrait of religious life that centers on Philippa Talbot, a highly successful professional woman who leaves her comfortable life among the London elite to join a cloistered Benedictine community of contemplative nuns, at England's Brede Abbey.It was adapted for television in 1975, and starred Diana Rigg.It was published in the UK and the US simultaneously. This is a copy of the first American edition, which was by Viking Press for the Book-of-the-Month Club.The book is as you see it, with shelf-wear and scrapes to the dust jacket.The inside is in near-perfect condition. It has not been read; it appears to have been leafed through.There are two little marks on pages 218 and 219. There is a book plate on the front endpaper but no one wrote a name on it.376 pages; plain beige boards with a brown design on the spine.

This is a first edition of The Inside of the Cup, the best-selling 1913 novel about poverty that sparked a nationwide debate about the role of Christianity and religion in daily life.
It was written by the American author Winston Churchill (1871-1947) who, at the time, was more famous than the Winston Churchill the politician, who was also a writer. After the American wrote to him about the possibility of confusion, the latter began to publish as Winston Spencer Churchill, or Winston S Churchill, and used that signature for the rest of his life.
This copy is in near-mint condition. It has a mark on the outside edges, at the back. There is a very small signature on the front endpaper. The marks you see in the photos are fingerprints and dust and can be easily cleaned. And the paper has darkened, as you would expect with a book of its age.
Other than that, it's perfect.

This is the souvenir brochure and libretto from the original London production (August 1972) of Jesus Christ Superstar, which ran at the Palace Theatre and starred Steve Alder, Colm Wilkinson and Anna MacLeod.8 1/2" x 11 1/4".28 pages plus covers and including a fold-out centre spread.The back cover has a couple of scuff marks. Joseph the Provider is the fourth book in Mann's four-part series Joseph and His Brothers, which Mann wrote over 16 years and completed in 1942. He re-tells the stories in Genesis, chapters 27-50, putting them in historical context. Mann, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929, considered it his greatest work.
This book was first published in Sweden (in German) in 1943.
In 1944, it was published in English, in the US, by Knopf. This is a first printing of that English edition.
It is 416 pages + notes.
The cover is plain black with a gold feather, and there is gold lettering on the spine. It was printed in accordance with the war-time codes on paper and printing, so it's just a nice plain book. The pages have darkened a little, but there are no marks of any kind in it or on it.

This is a very nice copy of Kim, the classic tale by Rudyard Kipling, first published in 1901. It is set in the imperialistic world; a masculine world dominated by travel, trade and adventure, and strict divisions between white and non-white. It is about the relationship between Kim, a white man born in India, and an old ascetic priest, a lama. Kim is trying to live in both cultures, while the lama seeks redemption from the Wheel of Life. It is considered to be Kipling's masterpiece.
This copy was published by MacMillan London in 1951. The dust jacket states 'Library Edition', although this is not an ex-library book.
413 pages, including a map. Aside from natural darkening of the paper, it is in mint condition.

Pearl S Buck (1892-1973) was an American novelist who, in 1938, was the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.Mandala, a Story of India, was written in 1970 and tells the story of a princely family in the New India and how eastern and western philosophies overlap and conflict.This is a first edition and first printing. It is in pristine condition, with no marks of any kind in it or on it. There's just a little shelf wear to the spine of the dust jacket.

Michel Eyquem de Montaigne, Lord of Montaigne (1533 – 1592) was a French statesman and one of the most significant philosophers of the French Renaissance. It was he who popularized the essay as a literary genre, and his volume Essais contains some of the most influential essays ever written.

This is a stated first edition of Monsignor Quixote, the 1982 novel by the British author Graham Greene. It is his take on Don Quixote, and is about Communism, dictatorship and the Catholic religion (he was a fervent Catholic).232 pages. It does not appear to have been read, or even opened.It is in mint condition.

Saul Bellow (1915 –2005) was a Canadian-American writer and academic who won the 1976 Nobel Prize, as well as a Pulitzer. He is the only writer to win the National Book Award for Fiction three times.
Bellow wrote 14 novels; More Die of Heartbreak was his 10th. It is the story of an intellectually gifted and philosophically tortured man attempting to work out his fate and worldview.
This is a first printing of the first edition, published by Viking, printed in the USA and distributed in Canada by Penguin. It is purple boards with cream trim and brilliant silver lettering on the spine.
It has never been opened—it creaked when I pulled back the front cover. Its only flaw is that someone stamped the underside with a star (see photo).

This is a first edition of The Peaceable Kingdom, An American Saga, the 1972 novel by the prolific Dutch-American playwright and novelist Jan de Hartog (1914-2002). De Hartog moved to the US in the early 60s and became a Quaker.
