A two-volume set of manuscripts, authored by an unknown author and written in French between 1898 and 1907, describes the colors of dyes and dyeing methods used during that time period. Both volumes are marked owned by Roman Lvovich, Chemical Director of the Franz Rabenneck Partnership in Lupino, Russia. They contain hundreds of samples of dyed velvet, yarn, and fiber, as well as the chemicals needed for the dyeing processes. The manuscripts also include instructions on how to prepare cloth, dye bath temperatures, prices for materials and machinery, and notes from the author's visits to Val-Et-Chantillon and Gruchet-le-Valasse, two French towns known for textile production.The manuscripts are a valuable resource for historians of textile dyeing and production.
