Cloth chipped at spine ends, corners rubbed through, front hinge a bit wobbly. Bookplate without owner's name on front pastedown, penciled ownership signature dated 1875 on front free endpaper. Map has tape repairs and some small losses and is slightly mis-folded. Neate W95: "Wilson journeyed from Simla to Kashir through Shingo La, Padum, Penze La, Dras and Zoji La in 1873.

Original brown cloth, worn at spine ends. Small bookplate ("Marcy Mills") and bookseller's label on front pastedown, another label partially removed from rear pastedown, part of rear free endpaper lacking. Binding tight, text clean, pages somewhat tanned. Wagner-Camp (410): "Samuel Bowles and his party left Atchison, Kansas on May 21, 1865 for San Francisco by way of Salt Lake and across central Nevada, stopping at Austin and Virginia City. They reached the Pacific at the end of June, and traveled overland up the the coast to British Columbia, returning to San Francisco by steamer. They visited Yosemite in August, and were back in New York by the end of September. This book is composed of Bowles's letters to the 'Springfield Republican', revised and expanded." Bound in blue cloth with mounted color illustration. Small chip to illustration, corners lightly bumped, bookplate of J. Elmore Turrell on verso of front free endpaper, as well as a brief penciled gift inscription to Turrell on the facing page. Binding tight, contents clean. No dust jacket. Account of Commodore Arthur Curtiss James' eight-month cruise aroud the world in his barque-rigged 218-foot, 659-ton, sail and steam yacht. Includes much content on the Far East.

New York: Macmillan, 1895. Hardcover. Good. First American edition. 306 pp, with folding Map of the Kingdom of Kashmir and many illustrations by the author. Lettering and illustration on cloth boards is quite faded, one crack in binding, scattered foxing, old dampstain and private library embossed stamp visible on title page. Good. Neate M03: "His own account of Conway's 1892 Karakoram Expedition. McCormick was a landscape artist and watercolorist who illustrated Conway's alpine books and other mountaineering books." McCormick describes his book in the preface as "a more personal narrative" in which he has "attemped to give an ida of the picturesque aspect of the expedition rather than of the geographical portion.

Second volume of Stark's autobiography, told through her self-edited correspondence including letters from her first journey, Canada, to Baghdad, into Persia, the Persian Summer, Journalism in Baghdad, and the last of Baghdad from 1928-1933.

Bound in publisher's white cloth with thistle decoration in green and pink. Corners bumped, scratches (including one causing a partial split) in spine cloth; binding sound, pages clean.

Very good. xi, 428 pp + publisher's ads, with two lithographed plates before the title page, showing Rio de Janiero and Catete, Original red cloth binding, with chipping to cloth at base of spine, light wear to edges. Internally sound and clean. Reverend Charles Samuel Stewart (1795-1870) served as missionary in to the Sandwich Islands from 1823 to 1825. In 1828, he became a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy. He served in various places, including: on the U.S.S. Brandywine from 1841 to 1842, a hospital in New York from 1847 to 1848, on the U.S.S. Congress from 1851 to 1853, and on the steam frigate Niagara from 1861 to 1862. This book recounts his time on the Congress, which was assigned to the Brazil Squadron with the mission of protecting United States interests from the Amazon to Cape Horn. Borba de Moraes p. 288.

Corners rubbed, uneven sunning to rear board; contents clean and sound. Gissing's journal of travel in southern Italy, including Naples, Cotrone, Catanzaro, Reggio, and elsewhere. No dust jacket.

London: Constable and Company Ltd, 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. xvi, 288 pp, with two folding maps and 113 illustrations from photographs. Appendix by Count Dr. Cesare Calciati and Dr. Mathias Koncza, Original dark red cloth with illustration of climbers on a steep slope on front board. Corners lightly bumped, some rubbing to edges of boards, spine lettering dulled. Binding tight, contents clean. The Workmans, an American husband and wife team, were wealthy, zealous, and energetic explorers who together made many expeditions to the Himalayas. Fanny, a suffragist as well as a bit of a publicity hound, made sure the world knew of her achievements as a pioneering female climber. (Among other achievements, she held the women's altitude record for 28 years after her conquest of 23,000-ft Pinnacle Peak in 1906.) Winbush on the limitation page. 10.25 x 8.5 inches, 293 pp, with 76 colored plates and folding map at rear. Bound in publisher's cream cloth decorated in green, red, and gilt. Corners lightly bumped, minor scuffing to boards, scattered light foxing, but a very nice copy overall.

Very good. 291 pp + [1] ("Afterthoughts") and publisher's ads, with illustrations from photographs and a large folding map of the White Pass & Yukon Route, with inset Map of Atlin Lake District laid in at the back. Original red cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Spinelightly sunned, a bit of scattered foxing, attractive engraved bookplate (identifying the owner simply as "Alexandra") on the front pastedown. Cameron traveled extensively and generally alone, publishing books on Africa, South America, Mexico, and the South Seas, among others. Although she has been described by some critics as more of a globetrotting tourist than an explorer (see Robinson p. 177 and the DNB) she was elected to membership in the Royal Geographical Society in 1913, suggesting her contemporaries, at least, felt otherwise. Bookplate on front pastedown (with another underneath it), light edgewear to boards, some light discoloration to rear board; binding sound, contents clean. Liddell (1860-1925) was a British landscape painter who traveled extensively in China, where his family had business interests. A contemporary advertisement for this book says that "the author was actually admitted to parts of the Imperial Palace never before opened to a European, and his work [in China] is absolutely unique.

Slight rubbing to extremities, some faint spots on spine, else fine. Ownership signature reading "A.G. Page" or "A.Y. Page" on front free endpaper; penciled note on front blank: "Miss Page in China during May 1935." Grace Thompson Seton (b. 1872) was the author of many travel books, several of which recounted her adventures hunting big game, fishing, and collecting specimens in the American and Canadian West with her naturalist husband Ernest Thompson. Later, she became an advocate for women's rights and traveled internationally to learn about the condition of women abroad. This book recounts her trip to China, during which she took pains to meet with women of various levels of influence and education and to describe how the role of women in Chinese society was changing, and where she felt reforms were needed.

Recounts Stark's war experiences in Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and Persia.

Account of Burton's journey from Rio to the rich mining area of Minas Gerais via Tres Barras, River Velhas, Penedond Paulo Afonso Falls. He canoed down the entire 3,000 kilometer length of the previously uncharted Sao Francisco River to the Atlantic. Borba de Moraes I, p. 119; Penzer pp. 78-79. Corners bumped, some scuffing to upper spines, a little chipping to cloth, foxing to first and last few leaves of each volume. With the bookplates of British Civil Engineer Leveson Francis Vernon-Harcourt (we believe), prominent early Los Angeles physician Walter Lindley, and his son, Francis Haynes Lindley.

Bound in original green cloth with lettering and decoration in gilt, top edge gilt. Spine is slightly slanted and spine cloth is lightly sunned, with tears at head and foot. Mild to moderate foxing on some pages, but generally clean and sound. Emily Georgiana Kemp (1860-1939) was a British adventurer, artist and writer who travelled in China, Korea, India, Central Asia and the Amazon. The focus of her books -- which included (among others) The Face of Manchuria, Korea and Russian Turkestan (1910), Wanderings in Chinese Turkestan (1914), and Chinese Mettle (1921) -- was the education and welfare of women.

Publisher's green cloth shows light general wear; bookplate on front pastedown, one plate and one map loose and laid in. Travel narrative of several months' journey on foot through the Congo, with observations on Belgian administration, village life, and native customs.

Bound in blue cloth with gilt illustration on front board, top edge gilt. Spotting to fore edge, minor wear to extremities, bookplate of Alfred Fowler on front pastedown. The authors was an official in the British Colonial Office. This book, written relatively early in his career, describes travels in Rhodes, Cyprus, Palestine, and Syria.

Original tan cloth shows some light foxing/spottting, otherwise a very nice copy, clean and sound. In the original dust jacket, which has been professionaly repaired/reinforced with a white backing paper. Jacket art is credit Account of Mitchell's experiences during the Klondike gold rush.
