Original hand-colored engraving depicting Spain and Portugal with a centerfold. From a composite atlas of Duval's maps. No margins to left and right of map (see image). Map measures 7.5 x 6.25 in (19 x 16 cm), with the paper merely measuring 7.5 x 5.75 (19 x 14.5 cm). Scarce.

Black cloth boards with stamped coat of arms in silver, red, blue, and green with white text to front board and spine. Tipped in color frontispiece portrait of Pancho Cossio, Count of Ybarra. Spanish text throughout. Tipped in color plates throughout, as well as black and white illustrations. No previous owners' names or other markings. Signed Phillip II manuscript document dated October 2, 1576. Counter signed by King's secretary, Antonio de Erasso. Spanish text throughout. Letter adhered to another sheet of paper; left edge of backing paper is folded over the left edge covering a small amount of text. Evidence of previous worming and discoloration to left edge not effecting text of the letter. Framed in red wood with gilt, floating between two panes of glass. Frame: 15 x 17 1/4 inches; Letter: 8 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches.

Scarce. Mid twentieth century paper covered boards. Wear to fore-edge of title page. Later extraneous pagination inked to top right recto corners.
