Photography, handset, letterpress, and bookbinding by Ines von Ketelhodt. Numbered and signed by the artist. Ines von Ketelhodt: "The silhouette of a kissing scene, printed in red, forms the background for Karoline von Günderode's ballade superimposed in black print. From close up, the 12 point type is legible on an abstract red color field. When the concertina is unfolded and viewed from a distance, the figures appear nearly life-size. The effect is an interplay between closeness and distance."  Karoline von Günderode (1780 - 1806) came from a poor but aristocratic family. She felt frustrated by prescribed female roles of her place and time. Romantic poetry became an outlet for these frustrations.

Tom Knapp: "The reading about the tumultuous Cristeros uprising in western Mexico of 1927-1929 consumed many fascinating days, and the decision to create a series of images of the rebellion followed shortly. ... "The prints, by any means, do not constitute a history of the CRISTIADA, but are only images which came to mind during the reading of the material available on this very important but largely suppressed or forgotten period in the saga of the turbulent history of western Mexico. The cruel attempt to destroy the Catholic church in the country by the dictator Elias Calles left many dead on both sides of the conflict, Army and peons alike.

Lisa Kokin: "A Jacob's ladder-type book with a humorous poem that I wrote after being verbally harassed on the street. … The shoe last is kind of a metaphor. I was being sexually harassed for my weight by some guys leaning out of a car -- symbol of oppression, crushed under the weight of sexism...something to that effect. As always I try to do when talking about serious subjects, I use humor as a vehicle for accessibility.

Bound with wire through reinforced holes in the edges of the leaves. Initialed and dated by the artist. Lisa Kokin: "Part of my 'Wordless Library' series, this book has unreadable 'text' made by puncturing the aluminum with a sewing machine without thread." The twelve leaves produce two text pages. The artist's punctures are made to the recto side of the aluminum sheet producing another image of the punctures on the verso. It is much along the lines of blind embossing. Kokin says "I am intrigued by text based work that uses asemic text, which is something that looks like text but isn't made up of actual words."

Four triangles and four squares connected by hinges form a folding octagon structure with a hole in the center. Four 3.75 x 3"books with 10 leaves each slip into cavities that have been cut into the outside edges of the four squares. The squares and triangles are covered with papers that are Kumi Korf's intaglio prints printed by Christa Wolf on Akatosashi paper.
