Description:
Chicago, Illinois:: Theodora Press,, 1991.. Edition of 10. 7.5 x 13.25"; 28 pages. Accordion fold. 15 hand-colored etchings. Letterpress titling, ornaments, and colophon. Printed on Rives lightweight. Bound in a top-fold accordion with gatefold opening. Signed and numbered by the artist. Teresa Pankratz: "'Pas de Deux' is a visual narrative depicting a couple's frustrated attempt at intimacy. Bound by self-imposed constrictions, they reach out - but never quite touch. "This tale was inspired by a performance piece entitled 'Nothing Up Your Sleeve' performed by Nan Shineflug and Jeff Abell of the Chicago Moving Company (one of the first modern dance troupes in the Midwest)." The French pun - pas de deux as dance duet for two, and pas meaning not - underscores the point. The beauty of the etchings and the delicacy of the construction turn what might have been a vaudeville skit into a poignant story.

Minneapolis, Minnesota:: History-Papers,, 2022.. Edition of 50. 8 x 10 x.75"; 194 pages. Digital and Risograph prints. Pastedowns of thermochromic paper. Hand sewn with a four-hole Japanese stab binding, with foil stamping on the front and back covers. Text pages printed on a light gray paper in pink and blue. Lex Thompson: "Published by History-Papers, 'Cheiro's Language of the Hand', reimagines Cheiro's nineteenth-century palmistry text; an instructional guide to palm reading as science rather than occult art. This dubious application of scientific ideas has the flair of parlor tricks, the language of science with the feel of magic.
It is set in Gills Sans, a humanist sans-serif typeface, released near the end of Cheiro's life, chosen for its suggestion of objectivity with still a touch of the human hand. Pages of celebrity handprints (Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, William Gladstone, etc.) are Risograph printed on thermochromic paper; the pink and blue sheets…

Chicago, Illinois:: Ann Tyler,, 2017.. Edition of 20. 9 x 13"; 9 leaves. Inkjet printing on Hahnemühle Museum Etching with deckled edges 350 gsm paper. Laid in paper case (10.24 x 13.25") of Murillo by Fabriano 360 gsm. Slip and tab closure. Signed by the artist. Ann Tyler: "Seven views of nebula in the 'night sky.' Nebulae are comprised of gas and particles formed when portions of interstellar media undergo a gravitational collapse. In Nebulae the beauty of the destructive and formative aspects of the universe is posed against a 'gravitational collapse' on earth during warfare. Bombing reduces the solid matter of human lives to particles. "The nebula images were created by observing many NASA images and then selecting particular newspaper source images of skies recorded during bombings. The actual source of the base image is revealed at the end of the series - Gaza, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen. "The Rilke quote builds through each sequence to…

Ink jet and laser jet printing. Laid in 8.375 x 8.125" paper case of Murillo paper by Fabriano 360 gsm. Signed by the artist. Ann Tyler: "Using language and image to examine a world of war and shifting borders, the book is an accordion fold structure with language as landscape on one side and images of bombed homes on the other. The binding strips show at the joinings on the language side as thin strips of red - referencing flashes of explosion. The voice loops back on itself moving among rationalization, definition, question, pain, anger, question. "The rubble images are from the newspaper and I've retained the halftone to create a coarse image and then pulled the image back by using the overlay of blue. Periodically I've introduced color into the rubble image to refer back to…
