Waffle Street: The Confession and Rehabilitation of a Financier by James Adams

San Clemente, California: Sourced Media Books, 2010. 296 Pages Indexed. Signed By Adams on Half Title Page. Front cover has very light wear. No other defects noted and interior text pages flawless. Jimmy Adams was laid off from a hedge fund in early 2009. Wearied by eight years in the bond market and disillusioned by the financial services profession, he decides to get an honest job for a change. Before he knows what hit him, Jimmy finds himself waiting on tables of barflies at his local Waffle House. Amidst the glorious chaos of the night shift, the 24-hour diner affords a bevy of comedic experiences as the author struggles to ingratiate himself with a motley crew of waiters and cooks. Unexpectedly, the restaurant also becomes a font of insight into financial markets and the human condition. In a uniquely hilarious and thought-provoking narrative, This book unravels the enigmas of money, banking, economics, and grits once and for all. As they laugh heartily at the author's expense, readers will develop a profound appreciation for the first principle of economics: there really is no such thing as a free lunch. Contents in Eight Chapters: Pink Slip, Scattered Smothered and Clueless, One Flew over the Waffle House, You Can't Bank on Anything, Crime and Punishment, The Restaurant of Last Resort, Romeo and Juliet Hedge Their bets, and Mea Culpa.. San Francisco's Jewel City Signed by the Author by Laura A. Ackley

Beautiful small folio book covering the International Panama-Pacific Exposition aka World's Fair which took place in San Francisco in the early 20th Century. A must-have for San Francisco history buffs! San Francisco's Jewel City: The Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915 by Laura A. Ackley Hardcover First Edition - Second Printing Heyday and California Historical Society 2015. Beautiful book with numerous photographs and illustrations, some of them originally black and white photos colored. SIGNED and Dated 9/28/2015 on the Title Page with Inscription "Enjoy the Fair!". Fine as NEW without Dust Jacket as issued. 382 Pages. The Panama–Pacific International Exposition ( PPIE ) was a world's fair held in San Francisco, in the United States, between February 20 and December 4 in 1915. Its ostensible purpose was to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal, but it was widely seen in the city as an opportunity to showcase its recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The fair was constructed on a 635 acre (2.6 km2) site in San Francisco, along the northern shore, between the Presidio and Fort Mason, now known as the Marina District. Among the exhibits at the Exposition was the C. P. Huntington , the first steam locomotive purchased by Southern Pacific Railroad; the locomotive is now on static display at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. A telephone line was also established to New York City so people across the continent could hear the Pacific Ocean. The Liberty Bell traveled by train on a nationwide tour from Pennsylvania to attend the exposition. After that trip, the Liberty Bell returned to Philadelphia, and has not made any further journeys since.[1] The 1915 American Grand Prize and Vanderbilt Cup auto races were held February 27 and March 6 on a 3.84-mile (6.18 km) circuit set up around the Exposition grounds.[2] The Smithsonian Institution also had an exhibition at the Exposition. Portland,Oregon: Nazraeli Press, 2009. First edition. Edward Bateman. [16 pp.] Duodecimo [19 cm]; maroon boards. Fine. A book of twelve reproductions and one original pigment print by digital wizard Edward Bateman. Nazaraeli Press One Picture Book #58. The thirteenth plate is laid in at the rear of the book and is signed by the artist on the reverse. This copy signed by the creator on the title page. This edition of Mechanical Brides of the Uncanny was sold out prior to publication. From the introduction:"Automatons became the next wonder of the age, and the camera turned its ever hungry gaze on them as well. This was an unprecedented development. Mankind has always looked at objects. For the first time in human history, objects were looking back. Robots (although the name would not be coined for 80 years) made excellent photographic subjects because of their ability to remain motionless for extended periods of time. And indeed, they were widely documented, although few examples remain today. Automatons became more than just sources of labor-they became companions and, following legislation passed during the upheaval of the Civil War, autonomous citizens."
