The conference was 'bookended' with two keynote addresses. The opening talk offered a historical perspective by Betty Bright and the closing talk present and exploration of collection development practices by Mark Dimunation. The keynote addresses are published together with an introduction by the conference conveners, Ruth Rogers and Richard Zauft, and a list of artists and works cited in the talks.

The title of no. 35 of the Living Locally series comes from the phrase "Above the Bed". In the author's part of the world "When someone is in bed he is said to be Above in the Bed." Van Horn muses as to what the phrase actually means. She also explores other regional word usage such as "A Hot Drop", "The Long Acre", and "The cock's step".

Tie closure. Milman’s second book about the oil spill in the San Francisco Bay on November 9, 2007. On that day the container ship Cosco Busan rammed the Bay Bridge and spilled 58,000 gallons of fuel. With a blot of red paper over the black-and-white linocuts, there is no doubt where Milman's sympathies lie - certainly not with the oil companies.

Another of Simon Cutts' wonderful but maddening simple and confounding productions. This book combines images of the ships from Everard Line whose names begin with A (Affinity is notably – or not – not present) and a letter on the subject of concrete poetry from idiosyncratic and combative Scottish poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay to Pierre Garnier. As is usual with Coracle productions, there is much to be pondered and learned – and enjoyed – from this mix of particularity and peculiarity.

The story goes that after a flood in Waukesha the animals of the A Through Z Pet Emporium escaped their cages and fled to the upper floors. After the waters receded and the animals returned to their "homes," thirteen babies were found. Curiosities of nature had been born: a Bassadillo (armadillo + basset hound); a Herrhound (greyhound + heron); a Narth (moth + narwhal), etc.  We always knew that mixing it up was fun, but this is wonderfully outrageous.
