Part of the Young Naturalist's Library edited by Adams. Previous owners’ names on front endpaper, one dated 1860 and one 1940. Binding cracked but sound inside. Generally nice and clean inside with lovely plates.

Occasional marks as befits the subject, generally nice and clean inside as the children become. Corners a little bumped, binding cracked at front and rear pastedown.

Undated circa 1880, published introduction / dedication dated May 1875. Xvi + 304pp. A historical tale based on the seige of Preston when around 4000 Jacobites were surrounded by the English government forces. After putting up considerable resistance, they eventually surrendered and many were transported.

Princess Alice was born in 1883 and grew up in the later years of Victorian Britain as part of the British Royal family's inner circle. Repaired tear to the front of the unclipped dust jacket, other chipping to the edges and fold to inner edge, generally good. The inner book is in excellent clean condition with some age spotting to edge.
