Scarce first edition of an anonymously compiled legal vade mecum for farmers and country gentlemen, with particular attention given to game laws, tithes, highways and turnpike roads, fishing, fish ponds and rivers, the manufacture of and duty on malt, and laws relating to the manufacture and retail of cyder, mum, perry, and hops. The work further gives details of "all the acts of parliament, and adjudged cases thereupon, relating to cattle, corn, hay, straw, timber and other trees, butter and cheese, and every other article in which the farmer or country gentleman is materially interested." This attractive and early map of North America was originally prepared by Van der Aa for inclusion in his 1706 De gedenkwaardige en al-om beroemde voyagien der Spanjaarden na West-Indien. The map includes a very decorative title cartouche featuring early European settlers and traders and Native Americans. With separate German and Spanish scale of miles. Pieter van der Aa was a bookseller, auctioneer and prolific publisher in Leiden during the early eighteenth century. His maps are well engraved and have a beauty and elegance about them. This is the attractive map of the north eastern Dutch province of Groningen, which borders the German state of Niedersachsen. The famous explorer Abel Tasman was a native of this province. This delightful octavo engraving is based on the earlier and larger work entitled 'Oxonia Illustrata' (1695) by the English baroque engraver, draughtsman and painter; David Loggan.
