Double price-clipped dust-jacket admits to a number of inoffensive tiny chips and tears, along with a small stain to back panel, and some light to medium soiling, here and there. This is certainly still an attractive copy

Several small white spots to spine and a touch of soiling and some sunning to exterior. From the library of Alec Vidler, with his signature. All signatures guaranteed. This one is in pencil and not very legible. Nonetheless, the provenance is well established.

New York: William H. Sadlier, 1886. Hardcover. Poor. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 240pp. Ex-library. Nicely illustrated throughout with black and white line drawings. Exterior is very worn, though binding is firm and intact. Very old moisture stains to edges of pages, as well as outer margins to many pages. Short tears and small chips to interior, here and there. Last (blank) leaf is partially detached. Light to medium soiling to interior, too, with a small blue mark to one page and heavy soiling to some pages, likely from use. Certainly an acceptable, sound reading copy. VERY SCARCE 19th century edition

Trappist, Kentucky: The Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, 1948. First Edition . Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. (vi), vii, 139pp. An early Thomas Merton work. As noted in Dell'Isola's bibliography, the volume is "illustrated with 12 sepia photographs of ancient and modern Cistercian architecture which were taken by Jahan and Sauvageot, and a detailed sketch, with explanatory notes, of a typical Cistercian abbey in the 12th century." Although this copy was in a library, there is only a light discoloration to lower spine where a sticker used to be, and a faint erasure mark to upper corner of front free endpaper; else, no other areas of the book were subjected to library treatments. Clear and bright gilt lettering to spine and front cover. Nicely illustrated. Text clean. Binding sound
