Dodd, Mead & Co., New York, 1954 Bound in the original black paper covered boards with yellow lettering. The binding is bright and clean with slight wear to extremities. Evidence of tape residue and offset to prelims and rear pastedown. Rear free endpaper excised and last blank leaf with large tear and soiling. The dust wrapper is clean and bright with slight soiling and edge wear, spine faded. Overall a good only copy with a bit better dust wrapper. The irascible, irritable Abbey went on to much greater fame as an environmentalist but his literary career began here with his alter ego of Jonathan Troy. As is well known he disavowed the novel in later years and it was never reprinted. In his mind it was a youthful indiscretion better left forgotten.

T. Fisher Unwin, London. 1893. FIRST EDITION. A near fine copy bound in the original beige linen cloth with blue green lettering and decoration. TEG, others untrimmed. Part of the Pseudonym Library series. Aho was the pseudonym of Finnish author Johannes Brofeldt who is most known for the short story, "When Father Brought Home the Lamp" which is in this collection. Nice art nouveau bookplate on front pastedown, a bit of light foxing to prelims otherwise a clean, unworn copy.

A beautiful home plans catalog from Aladdin Readi-Cut Homes. 63 pages, profusely illustrated in color and black and white of readi-cut homes from modest bungalows, to tiny cottages, to ranch houses. The catalog is clean, bright and with no wear. Perfect as a reference guide for restoring an older home. You might now be living in "The Rio Grande"", "The Santa Fe", The Graystone" The Jasmine", "The Lexington", or "The Pasadena" and not even know it!

Aladdin Co., Bay City, MI. Circa 1949. A very nice, as new home plans catalog from Aladdin Readi-Cut Homes. 35 pages, profusely illustrated in color and black and white of readi-cut homes from modest bungalows, to tiny cottages, to ranch houses that look like something the Cleaver's would live in to more elaborate brick faced tudor homes. The catalog is clean and unmarked and includes a flyer and the original mailing envelope dated May, 1949. Perfect as a reference guide for restoring an older home. You might now be living in "The Gables", "The Shelburne", The Sunshine" The Concord", "The Palm Springs", "The Vassar" and not even know it!

Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1993. Uncorrected advance proof copy in the original orange wrappers. A fine copy save for some slight fading to the spine.

Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1882. 12mo. This is a beautiful copy in the original brown ribbed cloth with no wear and the gilt titles bright. Previous owners signature and "Xmas 1939" written on front endpaper. Laid in (and now) stuck to the rear pastedown is a portion of an envelope flap for the Strandway Book Shop in Boston.

Doubleday, Doran and Co. published for the Crime Club. New York, 1940 Octavo. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. A fine copy in the original yellow cloth with black titling and decoration. The book is clean and bright and untouched except from one small (1/16") bump along lower edge of front cover. The dustwrapper is bright and clean but brittle with edge wear and considerable chipping on spine and edges. Overall a very nice copy. "First Edition" on copyright page.

London and Orpington: George Allen, 1893. Two volumes bound in olive green cloth with pictorial cover illustrations in forest green. Octavo, 398 & 426 pages respectively. Each volume contains 100 illustrations in black and white by Arthur J. Gaskin, including a full page frontispiece. Arthur Gaskin, less well-known than his colleague Walter Crane, produced some of the most enchanting illustrations of the period. The cover illustrations, two young girls reading beneath a pair of stylized pomegranate trees, form a border around the title panel, decidely Pre-Raphaelite in nature and tone. Aside from some light soil and a bit of a bump to one corner, both volumes are in exceptionally nice condition.

Ahlen & Akerlunds, Stockholm, 1915A large quarto bound in the original beige linen cloth with a color cover vignette and green titling. The cloth is slightly age darkened with some wear to the extremities. Front inner hinge cracked but still solid. Some soiling and age darkening to the text block as usual. This is the first edition, written in Swedish with charming, nearly miniature illustrations by Einar Nerman. The illustrations are mounted and tissue guarded. Gift inscription on front endpaper dated 1927. Despite faults a nice example of a scarce title.

Rodale Press, Emmaus , PA 1983 A pristine copy, with cover design and illustrations by Jeanne Stock. Scarce Proulx title, particularly in this exceptional condition.

Lincoln, Nebraska: (1927). Oblong folio, (14.5" by 10.5") 221 pages, bound in a scrap-book style similar to large fabric and wallpaper sample books. Maroon cloth over boards held together with brass screws. Trade catalogs of American furniture are far more difficult to find than house plans. It is most unusual to find one of this size, with this range of items. Obviously intended to be used as a sample book by a retail establishment, rather than as a promotional mailer to individuals. The book is organized in seven sections, each with a heavy card cover sheet listing the category and page numbers of the section with printed tabs for easy reference. One of the tabs lists "Congoleum" but there is no material about the floor covering included and the page number has been left blank, indicating that part of the catalog had yet to be printed, rather than removed. New York: The Architectural Book Publishing Co., 1923. First edition Folio, 212 pages, bound in original blue cloth with gilt spine titles. A most impressive study of the architectural firm of Mellor, Meigs & Howe, with photographic images as well as architectural drawings of some of their most important commissions. The preface was written by Owen Wister in praise of the mission of the architects of this prestigious concern to allow "life to determine the character of a building". This particular volume is concerned primarily with residential and farm buildings displaying the firm's dedication to standing against the commercialization of art and architecture by applying the deepest philosophical and aesthetic elements of the Arts and Crafts movement. Indeed, the influence of the British architectural principles seen in the work of Bailey Scott, Philip Webb and others is in keen evidence. Oxhey, Watford, England: Lott's Bricks, Ltd., 1911. A rare, complete set of English building blocksin the original box. "They are made of artificial stone; the solid substance, the heavy weight, and the clean squareness of each block combine to make admirable building material." Astonishingly, nothing is missing from this set, including the original brochures. The box contains the elements to construct six different structures: A country house, tower, cottages, garage, library and parish hall. In short, representatives of the most familiar buildings in an English village may be made. Anyone that has had the good fortune of wandering through the British country side will certainly appreciate the seriousness with which architectural form is taken in order to preserve the heritage of taste and simplicity. New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1901. An octavo, 111pp., bound in original decorative green cloth, designed by Margaret Armstrong. Top edge gilt. Large portions of both covers and flaps of dust wrapper present, lacking spine panel. The book is in very good condition, except for a tiny pierce in the paper of the title page, affecting two letters in the "ga" in Margaret Armstong. Illustrations by Howard Chandler Christy..superb Art Nouveau borders in green and black.

London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and New York: Walter Scott, (ca.1890). A square 12mo., 304 pp., bound in half-vellum over red cloth. Top edge gilt, leather spine label with gilt title and Art Nouveau gilt flowers on spine. Inscription in a small, neat hand on the front free endpaper, dated, 1905. One of The Canterbury Poets series, edited by William Sharp. These little books constitute one of the most attractive collections of poetry published during the Arts and Crafts period of design. Quite a bit of soiling and wear, priced with these faults in mind..still, a nice little book.

Edinburgh: Thomas Nelson, (ca. 1920). A lovely little 12mo., 379 pages, bound in quarter vellum over red cloth. Top edge gilt. A fine copy.

Los Angeles: The Arroyo Press, 1906. A slim 12mo., 83 pages, bound in original printed wrappers with yapp edges. Aside from a small chip at the tail of the spine, this is a pristine copy, signed by the author on the title page.

Firenze: G. Barbera, (1900). An oblong octavo bound in olive green cloth over limp card, yapp edges. 236 pp. Green silk ribbons are laced across the covers and spine, with one long tie remaining. Exceptional Art Nouveau cover design consisting of gilt ruled borders surrounding a rose tree in full bloom planted in an urn with the title of the book printed on a gilt ribbon entwined around the stem. Other gilt ornamental foliage on the corners of the spine. A rare and captivating Italian guest book with 28 sections of \"Confessioni\" from visitors. Each \"Confessioni\" is comprised of a list of 35 questions regarding the tastes, preferences and interests of the guests. The subject matter of the queries includes a wide and fascinating variety of subjects ranging from literary opinions to personal defects. Printed on cream stock with gray-green ink, each page has several questions, a space for the answer and a variety of lovely Art Nouveau ornamental devices. London: T. Fisher Unwin, (1904). An octavo of 267 pages bound in the original pictorial cloth of a gardener in a white shirt and hat tending a garden bed with his rake. The spine features a large bay standard with twisted twin trunks set in a large pot. This exceptional publisher's trade binding is executed in white, olive and chartreuse green set against navy blue. Colored frontispiece of sweet peas. Written by the author of Recipe For The Million, it contains a wealth of practical information for garden lovers. The text can be readily had in various internet formats and reproductions...but the satisfaction of the boldly handsome binding, representing the best elements of the Arts and Crafts period of design, cannot be captured in modern commercial endeavors. A bit of light foxing and rubbing as well as a little wear to the spine extremities. Overall a very good copy indeed of this scarce title in its original binding.
