This copy clean, well-preserved and VG+ to Near Fine in its navy-blue cloth, with bright, decorative gilt-bordering along the panels and 2 separate, clean leather labels (one noting the author, the other the publisher) along the spine. One tiny spot at the front panel, decorative former owner bookplate to the front pastedown and light offseting along the edges of both endpapers and pastedowns. Still though, very presentable and significant as such,

Large fold-out map of The States (which shows one small tear) at the rear pastedown.

The remarkable 1948 limited edition. #17 OF ONLY 50 COPIES ISSUED, WITH 18 BRILLIANT, ORIGINAL EROTIC WATERCOLORS BY BELGIAN ARTIST EMILE BAES (1879-1954), EACH CREATED FOR THIS EDITION AND EACH SIGNED BY THE ARTIST (IN PENCIL). Clean and Near Fine in its loose signatures (as issued), all contained within the printed wrappered chemise and then within an addtional stiff cardboard chemise (with its pasted-on title label at the spine). Very clean and Near Fine to Fine. Each full-page watercolor includes its original tissue-guard and each is in pristine condition (and very frameable). The text and illustrations printed "sur Papier Crevecoeur des Papeteries du Marais" Thick quarto, a highspot in midcentury French illustrated erotica.
